The cold weather has arrived and we are asking for your help to double check your heating practices at home. Take the time to check on a few common causes of house fires in our area: Plug a space heater directly into the outlet in the wall and never a power strip or surge protector. Be sure there is a 3 foot space around any heating source you have in your house, whether it be space heaters, fireplaces, furnace, or wood stove. Finally, make sure your smoke detectors and CO detectors are working. Be sure to call 412-833-2000 or 911 if you need us to come check on a possible problem in your house (we promise not to use all the lights and sirens unless its a real emergency).

Today, I, along with Vice President Bob Clark had the privilege of delivering our donation of used fire equipment to be sent down south to fire departments that lost everything in the flooding disaster that occured last week. The New Kensington Volunteer Fire Department spearheaded this event and is hoping to fill 5 tractor trailers with donated fire equipment by this weekend. The Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company is proud to be part of this effort. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this disaster.

Monday morning greetings! Susan and I had a productive weekend, highlighted by our attendance at my Canon-McMillan High School reunion, where we observed the accomplishments and legacy-building of my former classmates. If you have the opportunity to attend your class reunion, don't miss it. Sadly, this was our final official reunion however, we already made plans to meet annually at the "Big Macs" Homecoming football game.

Earlier this evening, we responded to a vehicle fire on Library Road. Multiple fire units from all 3 of our stations responded to deal with the fire and the fluids, which had leaked out on a long stretch of the road before the vehicle came to a stop. Thank you to all the citizens who shared photos and videos of us in action. Maybe next time, it could be you in a set of fire gear. We are always looking for more volunteers! 😉
