It's very buzzy to want to "automate" your finances (and whatever else we can in life) but what if I told you that it's unhelpful if TOO much of your finances gets automated?

What about intentionality, engagement, and overall awareness??

This is the main reason I dislike the budgeting app Monarch (although there are some helpful fedatures!) and favor something like YNAB.

Tell me what you think in the comments below.

Talking about money with your spouse shouldn't feel like you're stepping in to the ring to spar 🥊 Like that feeling when a simple question about a receipt turns into a full-blown "discussion" (you know the one).

It’s time to get proactive in your conversations and make them *routine* so they aren't only happening when something is wrong.

Money management is actually a form of self-care for your relationship!

Here are 3 ways to take the tension out:

1. Set a Shared Agenda: Don’t blindside your spouse while they’re relaxing. Agree on the day, time, & topics ahead of time so everyone feels prepared.

2. Pick a Low-Stress Time: Skip the late-night sessions or "meh days" when energy is low. Pick a time when you’re both fed, calm, and alert. ☕️

3. Focus on Goals, Not Blame: Budgeting is leadership, not restriction. Look through the windshield at where you’re going, not the rearview mirror at past mistakes.

Ready to tame the chaos and finally get on the same page? I’d love to help.

6 years of Northwest Money Coaching! 🎉 Six years of helping you tame the chaos and find peace with your cash flow. Looking back, I’ve learned a few things the hard way so you don’t have to.

Here are 3 big lessons from my journey:

1. Start small and do it scared. You don’t need the $5k branding to start helping people. Build the simplest version of your dream, start making money, and cash flow your growth from there. Imperfect action beats polished stagnation every time.

2. Debt is not a "growth requirement." I know, everyone talks about leverage, but being a slave to lenders isn't the work-for-yourself freedom you dreamed of. Sustainability comes from staying lean and in control. Think hard before taking on debt, even if "everyone else is doing it"

3. Build a runway, not a cliff. Keep that steady income while starting. Desperation has a scent, and it turns off potential clients. Work the job, save the cash, and quit when you have the breathing room to actually fly.

It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always been worth it. Here’s to the next six! 🥂 DM me to control your cash flow chaos!

Happy April 15th! (The day we all looooove, right? 😅)

If you're self-employed or running a small biz, today isn't just about finishing up last year's paperwork. It's also the deadline for your Q1 estimated taxes!

I know, I know: writing that check to the IRS today feels a bit like a punch to the gut when you’ve just settled up for 2025. But here’s the thing: paying these now is actually a gift to your future self. 🎁

Staying on top of your quarterly payments is the absolute best way to prevent that terrifying "year-end tax surprise" that keeps so many business owners up at night. There is nothing worse than getting to April next year and realizing you owe a mountain of cash you didn’t set aside.

(Pro tip: This is where a solid cash flow routine really shines. If you’ve got one, today should just be a quick transfer rather than a financial crisis!)

If your business finances still feel like a game of "where did the money go?", I’m here to help you tame the chaos. Let's have a pressure-free conversation about getting you in control.

Soooo sorry to say this but that tax refund isn’t exactly "free money": it’s your hard-earned cash finally making its way home to you. 💸

It’s tempting to treat a refund like a windfall, but if you’re looking to tame the cash flow chaos, here’s how to make those dollars work as hard as you do.

First, get current with any past due bills or money borrowed from a loved one. This is your sleep-better-at-night action item. Next, if emergency savings are thin, topping them off is another game-changer for your mental wellness. Next, look at nonmonthly expenses - what caught you off guard last year? Set money aside now in savings. Next, crush your consumer debt. Paying interest is gross! And it’s always okay to save for "future you" goals too: like a down payment or a well-deserved reset trip.

For my self-employed friends, try these moves on the business side:
1️⃣ Tuck some into your tax savings bucket for next year
2️⃣ Hold revenue back on the high months to pad the low months
3️⃣ Upgrade systems that you down

Have you tried doing this in the past but your good intentions didn't stick? Message me today to make a plan!

I wonder if you believe me when I say most business owners aren't "bad with money." They’re just trying to drive a car by only looking in the rearview mirror.

That’s the difference between accounting and budgeting. Accounting is reactive: it’s for taxes and looking at the past. Helpful, indeed!

Budgeting? That’s leadership. It’s proactive, future-focused, and gives you actual control (and way better sleep, trust me).

If you’re ready to tame the cash flow chaos, here’s how we build a business budget that actually works:

1️⃣ Forecast conservatively. Don’t plan for your "best month ever." Plan for the "meh" months so you're never overextended. Anything extra is just a win! 📈

2️⃣ Give every dollar a job. Use a zero-based approach. Whether it’s for taxes, overhead, or your own paycheck, every dollar needs a destination before it arrives & is spent.

3️⃣ Check the plan before you spend. Think of it as checking your GPS before making a turn.

Budgeting is about peace of mind, not just math. If you’re a business owner feeling the stress of fluctuating income, let’s have a conversation.

Looking for a great tool to try on your own? My favorite personal finance app is YNAB, and turns out it's GREAT for business budgeting too. It's all I use and can 100% recommend.

This is so true, and mine started with a cell phone bill at 16ish. Having this responsibility helped me begin to learn to manage money, and as annoying as it was at the time, I'm grateful my parents made me do it!

Is it just me, or is the "feast or famine" cycle of self-employment the actual worst? 🎢 One month you’re feeling on top of the world, and the next you’re putting that bag of chips back at the grocery store.. It’s stressful, it’s chaotic, and makes you miss that 9-5. Almost.

The secret to ending the roller coaster isn't necessarily making *more* money: it’s changing how you pay yourself. Every heard of "paying yourself first"? 💸

Instead of taking whatever is "left over," you set a (conservative) fixed salary and pay yourself on the same days every month (like the 10th and 25th), regardless of that month's revenue. 🗓️

By treating your business like a traditional employer, you create a steady paycheck that makes personal budgeting a breeze. No more guessing, and it actually feels possible to make a normal budget for your household expenses.

It takes a little setup and a buffer, but the mental peace is worth it. (Your brain will thank you for lack of financial whiplash!
