Some important information. I had a client that had a very bad fire at her home Wednesday night. Did not burn the home down and all are safe, but will be a tear down and build back up. I want to tell you about the reconstruction companies that were knocking on her front door while the fire was still not contained. They were trying to get her business. They were non stop the next morning. I actually was at the home with her Thursday morning with the adjuster. I actually stopped two at her door and took their information but would not let them talk too her upon her request. You can not tell from the front that has been a fire so I guess these people are listening to scanners. She was emotionally drained and had to gather things to take since she will not be living there for about 4 months. As the adjuster explained she can use whom ever she wants to, but we do have approved vendors. I can explain that if you want to know. You want to make sure you do not sign a contract until you speak to your agent and your adjuster. No work can be started until claims is done with their work. That means nothing moved. (may have to board up some doors and windows). If someone says they are with your insurance company, you want to verify that and you should know whom you have agreed to give the work to. Do not sign contracts, Do not let them in your home, and do not let work begin until you have cleared things with your adjuster. I recommended my client put a sign on her door Not to solicit and contractor already chosen. The door knocks has stopped after that. Whom ever you choose be sure they are carrying Workers Comprehensive coverage and Liability coverage to cover you if they damage anything at the home, ex plumbing just one example or lets say they start a fire. You want that company to pay for that and that means they carry liability insurance. Workers comprehensive insurance protects you if one of the contractors employees for example falls off your roof. We want to take care of our clients!!! I do write Workers Comp and liability coverage if you are a business owner and need it.
