Hearing issues?

A man goes to the doctor, worried about his wife's hearing. The doctor says, "Stand behind her and try the 20-foot test."

At home, his wife is chopping carrots. From 20 feet away he asks, "Honey, what's for dinner?" Nothing.

15 feet. Nothing. 10 feet. Still nothing.

Finally, right behind her, he asks again.

She turns around and says, "For the fourth time, we're having steak!"

At least someone was listening. πŸ˜‚

I took Oakley and Huxley to see the new Paw Patrol Dino movie this weekend, and somehow I walked away with two financial lessons.

Lesson 1
Marshall makes several mistakes and starts wondering if he belongs on the team. Ryder reminds him that they didn't choose him because he never failed. They chose him because he never gave up.

Financial mistakes don't define you. Learn from them, get back up, and keep moving forward.

Lesson 2
Mayor Humdinger sees an opportunity to get rich quick by going after a mountain full of diamonds.

That reminded me of Proverbs 13:11

"Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it."

Building wealth usually isn't about finding the next big thing. It's about making wise decisions consistently over a long period of time.

So there you go. Paw Patrol taught me a couple of pretty good financial lessons this weekend.

Get back up. Be patient. Build little by little.

Where Is Your Treasure?

I was thinking about Matthew 6 this week, specifically verses 19 through 21, where Jesus talks about our money and possessions.

Jesus says, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth..." and then He tells us to store up treasures in heaven. Then He gives us the reason.

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

That last part really gets me.

Because I think sometimes we can convince ourselves that money is just money. It's just a bank account. It's just a house. It's just a car. It's just stuff.

But Jesus connects our money directly to our heart.

So I've been thinking about this question. Where is my treasure?

Am I spending most of my time trying to build something that is eventually going to disappear, or am I using what God has given me to invest in things that are eternal?

Think about your house. Eventually somebody else will live in it.

Think about your car. Eventually it will end up in a junkyard.

Think about your investment account. Eventually that money will be spent or passed on to someone else.

None of those things are necessarily bad. In fact, I think we should be good stewards of all of them.

But they aren't eternal.

So here's my challenge for you this week.

The next time you're looking at your bank account, making a big purchase, thinking about retirement, or deciding where you're going to give your money, stop for a second and ask yourself

"Is this helping me store up treasure in heaven?"

It's a question I need to ask myself too.

We've all heard WWJD, What Would Jesus Do?

Maybe we should start asking that question about our money too.

What would Jesus want me to do with what He's entrusted to me?

Put Him first. Everything else has a way of finding its proper place.

God bless you guys.

When God Is First

There are certain verses that stay with you for your entire life. For me, Matthew 6:33 is one of those verses.

When I was probably eight or nine years old, I was a huge Kurt Warner fan. One of the things I admired most about him was how openly he talked about his faith. He was one of the first professional athletes I remember seeing who was so willing to publicly point people toward Christ.

I remember having a school assignment in third or fourth grade where I wrote a letter to Kurt Warner's foundation. To my surprise, I actually received a letter back. At the bottom of that letter was his favorite Bible verse.

Matthew 6:33 reminds us

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

I've carried that verse with me ever since.

As I've gotten older, I've realized that this verse has implications far beyond what we might initially think. It applies to our families, our careers, our time, our priorities, and especially the way we view money and possessions.

It's incredibly easy to make our financial lives about chasing more. We want more money, more security, a bigger house, a better car, a larger retirement account, or simply the feeling that we have enough to finally stop worrying.

But Jesus gives us a different order.

Seek Him first.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't work hard, save, invest, plan for retirement, or provide for our families. Those things are important. But they should never take the place of God.

When we put Christ first, our perspective on money begins to change. We stop looking at everything we have as something we must hold onto at all costs and start seeing it as something God has entrusted to us.

Maybe that's the question worth asking yourself today.

What would change in my financial life if I truly put Christ first?

Maybe it's becoming more generous.

Maybe it's learning to be content with what you already have.

Maybe it's letting go of some of the fear you have about the future.

Maybe it's simply recognizing that your security ultimately isn't found in your bank account.

Money and possessions will come and go. Markets will rise and fall. Careers will change. Retirement will eventually arrive.

But God never changes.

So whatever you're facing today, start there.

Seek Him first.

Trust Him with the rest.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for reminding us that You are worthy of first place in every part of our lives. Help us seek Your Kingdom before we seek more money, more possessions, more success, or more security. Teach us to be good stewards of everything You have entrusted to us while remembering that our ultimate security is found in You. Help us trust Your provision, live with contentment, and use what You have given us in a way that honors You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Questions to reflect on:

What area of your financial life is most difficult for you to surrender to God?
What would it look like for you to practically seek God first with your money this week?

Have you heard this one before?

Got pulled over for speeding the other day.

The officer walked up and asked, "So, where are you headed?"

I said, "Heaven. Redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ."

He did not laugh. πŸ˜„

I wound up getting a ticket.

We had a great time at the Frisco RoughRiders game on July 30th with a bunch of our clients and their families!

This was our first summer client event, and after talking about how much fun everyone had, we've decided this is going to become an annual tradition.

Lord willing, next year's game will be a little earlier in the summer so we can avoid some of that Texas heat. πŸ˜‚ And maybe, just maybe, the RoughRiders will decide to score a few more runs next year. A 16 to 4 loss wasn't exactly the ending we were hoping for! πŸ˜‚

One of my favorite parts of this business is getting to know our clients outside of the office and spending time with their families. We truly value the relationships we've built and are grateful for the trust so many of you have placed in us.

And yes, before you ask, I am technically in the picture. You can see about 4 inches of my left arm. πŸ˜‚ I was off chasing kids somewhere to the left of the camera.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a fun night. We're already looking forward to next year's event!

What if the most important financial decision you make has nothing to do with money?

Let me take you back to the third or fourth grade.

I was a huge Kurt Warner fan. One of the biggest reasons was because he was so open about his faith. As a kid, I remember being really impacted by the fact that a professional athlete was willing to openly talk about Jesus.

For a school assignment, I actually wrote a letter to Kurt Warner's foundation. To my surprise, I got a letter back.

At the bottom of that letter was his favorite Bible verse.

Matthew 6:33

"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

I've carried that verse with me ever since I was eight or nine years old. It has become one of the most important verses in my life.

And I think it has incredible implications for the way we think about money.

We spend so much of our lives worrying about what we have, what we don't have, what we need next, and whether we'll have enough in the future.

But Jesus gives us a different perspective.

Seek Him first.

Not money first.

Not possessions first.

Not retirement first.

Not success first.

Christ first.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't plan, save, invest, or work hard. It means those things should come after our relationship with Him.

So my challenge for you today is simple.

Take Matthew 6:33 and apply it to your finances, your possessions, your career, your family, and your entire life.

Seek Christ first and trust Him with the rest.

God bless you guys.

*Devotional Monday: Contentment in What You Have*

Happy Monday! As we step into a new week, let's pause and reset our hearts around one simple but powerful idea: contentment.

Hebrews 13:5-6 says:
"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.' So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?'"

Here's something worth sitting with today: if you have a running toilet, you're wealthier than half the world's population. If you have access to a hot shower whenever you want one, you're wealthier than 70-80% of the world's population.

Let that sink in for a second. The things we walk past without a second thought, running water, a working bathroom, hot water on demand, are luxuries that most of the world doesn't have. And yet how often do we still find ourselves thinking about what we don't have instead of recognizing how much we've already been given?

Our culture is built to keep us wanting more, more money, more stuff, more upgrades. But Scripture flips that script. It tells us our security doesn't come from what's in our bank account or our garage. It comes from who holds our lives, a God who has promised never to leave us or forsake us.

So today, when it comes to money and possessions, ask yourself this question, How can I be content today with what I have?

And don't forget, put Him first. Everything else falls into place from there.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the countless blessings I overlook every single day. Forgive me for focusing on what I lack instead of being grateful for what You've already given me. Free my heart from the love of money and the constant chase for more. Help me find my contentment and security in You alone, not in possessions, comfort, or what the world tells me I need. Remind me that You are my helper, and because of that, I have nothing to fear. Help me put You first today, above everything else. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Questions to reflect on:
1. What's one everyday comfort you have that most of the world doesn't, and when's the last time you actually thanked God for it?
2. Is there an area of your life right now where you're chasing "more" instead of resting in contentment with what God has already provided?

God bless you, have a good day!

πŸ˜‚ Funny Friday πŸ˜‚

A family had just moved to Nashville and joined a new church. Their daughter was five, their son was two. Like most parents, they packed quiet activities for the kids during the service. Books, stickers, small toys. They figured neither kid was really paying attention to what was happening up front.

One Sunday, the preacher (who had a deep, booming voice) was quoting Exodus 21:24 to 25 from the King James Version.

"Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for..."

He paused.

And without even looking up, the two year old shouted:

"STRIPE!" πŸ˜‚

The whole pew erupted in laughter. The parents couldn't even scold him. At least the kid was listening!

Moral of the story? Sometimes the things we think aren't sinking in actually are. Kids notice more than we realize. So do the people watching how we lead, model, and steward what's in front of us.

Happy Friday, y'all. Go hug a two year old today. πŸ™Œ

✨ Biblical Wisdom Wednesdays ✨

This week's focus: Contentment, learning to be truly satisfied with what God has already given us.

Here's some perspective for today: if you have a running toilet, you're wealthier than half the world's population. If you can take a hot shower anytime you want, you're wealthier than 70-80% of the world's population. 🚿

It's easy to lose sight of just how blessed we already are while chasing after "more." But real peace comes from contentment, trusting that God provides and never leaves us.

So today, ask yourself: How can I be content with what I have, right now?

Money and possessions will come and go, but He never will. Put Him first. πŸ’›
