Thinking about shopping your company's health insurance by emailing a few brokers for quotes? Here's something most business owners don't know 👇

Brokers don't set your price — the insurance carrier does, based on your group. So sending the same info to 5 brokers doesn't get you 5 different deals. It gets you the same number 5 times… and it can actually work against you.

We put together a simple guide on how group health pricing really works, why the "get a few quotes" approach backfires, and the smarter way to shop for coverage.

Most employers don't find out their renewal is late until it's already too late to do anything about it. Your benefits renewal should reach you at least 60 days before your effective date — here's why that lead time is worth real money, and the one question to ask your broker right now. Not only are businesses moving to Texas…

Businesses are choosing to start in Texas.

But here’s what I keep seeing 👇
A lot of startups assume they’re too small to offer employee benefits.

That’s not always true.

I put together a quick breakdown of when it actually makes sense to offer group health insurance (and what to do if it doesn’t yet).

Most small to mid-sized businesses renew their employee benefits in Q4.

Not because it’s strategic.
Because that’s how it’s always been done.

But here’s the problem…

When everyone renews at the same time:
• Carriers are overloaded
• HR teams are stretched thin
• Employees rush decisions
• Small groups compete for attention

And the businesses that lose the most leverage?
Small to mid-sized companies.

In this video, I break down why shifting your open enrollment off the traditional fourth-quarter cycle can give you a real competitive advantage — better service, better engagement, and more time to make smart decisions.

If you’re a business owner or HR leader, this might be worth a watch.

If you’d like me to review your current renewal timing and strategy, I offer a free benefits audit here:

Curious — are you locked into a Q4 renewal, or have you explored moving it?

Most employers think offering pre-tax benefits is enough… but without a Section 125 plan, you may not actually be compliant.

In this video, I break down why pre-tax deductions require a proper Section 125 setup—and what it means for your business if it’s missing.

If you’re a business owner or HR manager, this is something you can’t afford to overlook.

👉 Not sure if you’re compliant? Reach out or check the link in my bio for a quick benefits review.

Late renewals cost more than you think.

When renewals come in late, it doesn’t just create stress… it limits your options.

• Less time to negotiate
• Fewer carrier strategies available
• Rushed employee communication
• Higher risk of increases

And the worst part?
Most companies think it’s “normal.”

It’s not.

Planning ahead gives you leverage.
Planning late gives you whatever’s left.

If your renewal is coming up in the next 4–6 months, now is the time to start reviewing your options — not when the rates hit your inbox.

Message us if you want a proactive strategy instead of a reactive scramble.

The ACA didn’t end — but the extra financial help did.
If you rely on marketplace subsidies, this change could impact your monthly cost.

Here’s the real explanation — no hype, just facts.

The expiration of enhanced ACA subsidies is now impacting Americans who buy health insurance through the ACA marketplace. These subsidies, introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, helped lower monthly premiums and reduce out-of-pocket costs for millions of individuals and families.

Now that Congress failed to extend them, ACA subsidies in 2026 have reverted to pre-pandemic levels. With inflation still driving up everyday expenses, many marketplace enrollees are seeing noticeable increases in premiums and fewer financial protections.

This change mainly affects people who purchase marketplace health insurance, including the self-employed, freelancers, contractors, and early retirees. If you work for a large employer with ACA-compliant coverage, your plan may not be affected—but individual buyers are feeling the pressure.

Most small business owners don’t realize this until it’s too late…
There’s a huge gap in the health insurance system for companies with 1–9 employees.

You’re too big for individual plans.
But still too small for most carriers to offer real group coverage — especially PPOs.

That’s exactly what today’s edition of Benefits Blueprint by Medcore is about.

I break down:
Why carriers really want 10+ employees
Why husband-and-wife businesses are treated as one risk
Why startups struggle to get real group plans
And how a short plan year can give growing companies a way forward

I also share real examples from:
A 2-person medical billing startup
A pawn shop going through new ownership and expansion

If you’re a founder, HR manager, or small business owner trying to offer benefits but keep hitting walls, this one is for you.

Introduction When you’re a small business with just a handful of employees, it can feel like the group health insurance system isn’t built for you. You might be wondering why carriers are telling you no, or why it seems impossible to get a PPO plan when you’ve only got one or two people on the...

A lot of business owners and HR teams told us the same thing this year:

“We didn’t really have time to think — we just had to decide.”

If your benefits renewal felt rushed, stressful, or last-minute, you weren’t alone. And it wasn’t random.

We just published a new edition of Benefits Blueprint by Medcore explaining why open enrollment feels this way for so many companies — and what can be done differently going forward.

If you handle employee benefits, this one’s worth a read 👇
