In general, car insurance follows the vehicle rather than the driver. If you're driving on a two-lane road, a four-lane road, or a road with a center turn lane, you must stop when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. State Farm is returning $5 billion to eligible auto customers this year in the form of a dividend.

This dividend is a one-time distribution to qualifying State Farm Mutual auto customers. This dividend is possible due to State Farm Mutual’s financial strength and a stronger-than-expected underwriting performance in 2025. Individual payments will vary.

Customers will be notified when their dividend payment is available. Customers who already have an email address registered with State Farm will automatically receive an email with instructions on how to select their preferred method of payment. Customers who do not already have an email address registered with State Farm will automatically receive a check sent to them via standard mail.

The dividend distribution will start in late summer 2026. Payments will be distributed to State Farm Mutual qualifying auto customers in waves by state and will take several months to process across more than 49 million auto vehicles.
