Great article about a local business.
40+ Years of Growing Popcorn and Building a Local Business
For more than four decades, AK Acres has been growing popcorn and building a business rooted in quality and community. What started with a single grower, owner Dennis Kunneman, has grown into partnerships with more than 30 growers.
Over the years, the company has expanded its capabilities by adding storage and warehousing, precision-cleaning equipment, and rail-line access. AK Acres has also grown its footprint with two locations, additional processing lines, a Safe Quality Food (SQF) designation, and an Organic Certification.
The owners remain actively involved in the industry, serving on boards such as the Popcorn Checkoff Board and collaborating annually with seed companies on new hybrid research.
The business is currently entering an exciting new chapter as it transitions from one generation of the Kunneman family to the next.
Beyond the business itself, AK Acres has long supported its community. From concession stands to the movies, their popcorn has become a familiar staple. We’re especially grateful for their generous donations to local schools and movie theaters over the years.
Thank you to AK Acres for your commitment to agriculture and your community! 🌱
