Comfort House Services

Comfort House is a ten-bedroom home providing a peaceful place for individuals with a life-limiting illness and a prognosis of four months or less. Thank You!!!

As a nonprofit, we rely on grants, fundraisers, and donations. C.H is a 501(c)3 organization and does not bill for our services and all gifts are tax deductible. We do not seek medicare or medicaid reimbursement by choice. We receive CDBG funds through the City of McAllen and we also look for additional support, which comes from the community, memorial gifts, fundraising activities and foundation grants. All donations are appreciated whether it be money, household goods, supplies, and/or volunteer service. Community volunteers give thousands of hours of service each year and enable us to operate with a smaller paid staff. We are extremely grateful to our wonderful donors and volunteers who make it possible for us to successfully fulfill our mission.

Today, we extend a very Happy and Blessed Birthday to Thelma Tamez, a valued member of the Comfort House Board of Directors and our Board Secretary!

Thelma has a heart filled with generosity and a genuine desire to help others. Her compassion, dedication, and willingness to serve have helped make a positive impact not only at Comfort House, but throughout our community.

Thelma, on behalf of our entire Comfort House family, we wish you a beautiful birthday filled with many blessings, happiness, good health, and the same kindness and joy you so generously give to others.

This past Wednesday, our Board of Directors had the pleasure of treating our amazing Caregivers, volunteers, and families to a special barbecue luncheon!

Comfort House is truly blessed to have such an incredible group of people who give their time, compassion, and support to help keep our mission going. Whether caring for our residents, volunteering behind the scenes, partnering with us in the community, supporting a loved one, or simply stepping in wherever there is a need, each person plays an important part in the Comfort House family.

Our work is not possible because of any one individual—it takes a community of people who believe that every person deserves to be surrounded by dignity, compassion, and care at the end of life.

To our Caregivers, our dedicated volunteers, our community partners, our families, and our Board of Directors: thank you. Thank you for showing up, for giving of yourselves, and for continuing to believe in the work we have been called to do.

A barbecue plate may have brought us together for the afternoon, but it was gratitude that was truly being served.

We are grateful for each and every one of you. May God continue to bless our Comfort House family and the mission we share.

We were so happy to spend part of our morning with United Way of South Texas as one of their guests for the livestream 2026 Campaign Kickoff! Thank you for including Comfort House and for the continued support, partnership, and encouragement you have shown us throughout the years.

What makes United Way of South Texas so special is its ability to bring organizations together, strengthen the work we are already doing, and help all of us reach more people throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

When you give to United Way of South Texas, your support doesn’t impact just one organization—it reaches across our community, strengthens many different missions, and helps care for our neighbors when they need it most.

We would like to wish Rev. Monsignor Juan Nicolau PhD a happy 89th birthday! Monsignor Nicolau is one who comes by often to pray for our residents, their families, our staff and volunteers. We are thankful for his years of dedication he has been giving to the Comfort House.
