Stay home and stay safe. If you must be out please use extreme caution!

Union County Sheriff's Department is requesting motorists to stay off the roads unless it is an emergency. Roads throughout the county are becoming slick and hazardous quickly. Several wrecks have already been reported. Please exercise caution and find a warm, safe place to stay.

🛑 WEATHER ADVISORY – BLACK ICE WARNING 🛑

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, “A cold front will move through tonight. Some light freezing drizzle or flurries are possible, but precipitation will come to an end. Temperatures will drop quickly, and any water on roadways will freeze into black ice. Very cold temperatures will remain in place through the week.”

🚨 With temperatures falling well below freezing after 9:00 PM tonight, travel is discouraged.
If you must travel tonight or tomorrow morning, use extreme caution. Black ice will be present on roadways and may be difficult to see.

• Check Your Vehicle: Tires, antifreeze, wipers & defrosters are all in top shape ✅
• Winter Emergency Kit: Blanket, flashlight 🔦, water, snacks 🍫, jumper cables, ice scraper, shovel, and sand or kitty litter for traction 🐾
• Drive Slowly & Carefully: Increase stopping distance & avoid sudden moves 🚦
• Use Headlights: Stay visible, even during the day 💡
• Stay Informed: Monitor weather & road updates 📻
• Avoid Travel if Possible: Stay safe and off the roads when conditions are severe 🚫
🏠 At Home:
• Insulate Pipes: Prevent freezing & bursting with insulation or heat tape 🧤
• Seal Windows & Doors: Keep cold air out and save energy 🏡
• Clear Gutters & Roofs: Prevent ice dams & water damage ❄️🧹
• Keep Heat On: Maintain steady indoor temperature 🔥
• Backup Heating: Use space heaters or generators safely ⚠️
