🚒 Volunteer Fire Departments in/near Mayfield, KY — Apply for Safety Equipment Help

If you know a volunteer fire department local to Mayfield (or within Kentucky), here’s what they should know about the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program:

Who can apply?

Must be more than 50% volunteer (paid on-call counts)
Must serve a community of 25,000 or less
Must be in the U.S. and legally organized under state law
Most recent fiscal year revenue must be $250,000 or less
Must be able to use funds for eligible equipment
Apply (2026):
🗓️ Mon, May 4 (12:00 PM ET) to Thu, May 7 (12:00 PM ET)

Be prepared to:

Share a photo or video if selected
Publicize the award
Report back within 4 months on how funds were used
How much support:
✅ 150 departments will receive $10,000 grants

📣 Quick safety reminder after the earthquake today!

We felt a small earthquake in our area today, and we want to make sure everyone stays safe. Here are some simple safety tips for inside and outside:

✅ If you’re inside
Drop, Cover, and Hold On (under a sturdy table or desk if possible).
Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy objects that could fall.
Do not run outside during the shaking—take cover first.
After the shaking stops, check for injuries and hazards (smells of gas, sparks, broken glass).
✅ If you’re outside
Move to an open area away from buildings, power lines, and trees.
Avoid anything that could fall or collapse.
If you’re driving, pull over safely and stay in a safe location until shaking ends.
✅ After an earthquake
Expect aftershocks—be ready to take cover again if shaking returns.
If you smell gas or see damage, leave the area and contact the proper authorities.
If you don’t already have coverage, it may be time to review your options. We do offer earthquake insurance—reach out and I’ll help you understand what protection may be right for you.

Friday, I had the chance to be part of the first Internship Fair with Graves County Economic Development and the Mayfield-Graves County Chamber of Commerce.

It was great meeting so many impressive juniors from Mayfield High and Graves County High. These students asked thoughtful questions, showed real initiative, and it was clear they are ready to learn and work.

Events like this are a big win for our community. They connect local businesses with local students and help create a path forward right here at home. I’m proud to be involved, and I hope we keep building on this momentum for our local students!
