Something special is “hatching” in Cerro Gordo County! 🐥 Thanks to Hoover's Hatchery, adorable chicks made a visit to the IOOF Home and Community Therapy Center—bringing plenty of joy with them.

Do you have a teenager — or know one — who loves to cook, grill or get creative in the backyard kitchen?
Iowa youth (ages 13–17) are invited to put their skills to the test at the Iowa Farm Bureau Cookout Contest, happening Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.
This is their chance to:
• Show off their cooking talent in a fun, high-energy environment
• Gain confidence and experience in a live contest setting
• Win BIG prizes!
The youth grand prize winner will go home $300 in cash and a gas grill valued at $1,000 (courtesy of the Iowa Propane Gas Association).
It’s FREE to enter, and spots are limited! Youth participants will be notified of their acceptance by the end of June.

Our final 2026 Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau Scholarship Spotlight features Samuel Dodge.

The CGFB scholarship is awarded to a high school senior whose parents/guardians are Farm Bureau members in Cerro Gordo County. Applicants were selected based on academic standing, leadership experience, civil involvement, and their commitment to rural Iowa and the agricultural community.

Samuel is the son of Hillary Dodge. While a student at Clear Lake, he was involved in Football, Track, Basketball, FFA, and Mentoring.

Samuel plans on attending Upper Iowa University where he will study Ag Business.

Per letter of recommendation, “I am extremely proud of Sam and how much he has grown over the past two years. His passion for the agricultural industry, combined with his genuine drive to help others, sets him apart as a leader. He has a strong
work ethic and enjoys taking on leadership roles in clubs and organizations"

Our second 2026 Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau Scholarship Spotlight features Addie Cooper.

The CGFB scholarship is awarded to a high school senior whose parents/guardians are Farm Bureau members in Cerro Gordo County. Applicants were selected based on academic standing, leadership experience, civil involvement, and their commitment to rural Iowa and the agricultural community.

Addie is the daughter of Paul and Kellie Cooper of Clear Lake, Iowa. While a student at Clear Lake, Addie was involved in FFA, Choir, National Honor Society, Speech, Drama and Theatre, Volleyball, Model UN, Soccer, and Dance.

Addie plans on attending Iowa State University where she will study Elementary Education. Per letter of recommendation, “I am a firm believer that Addie is a quality candidate for this leadership award through her agriculture involvement and scholastic record. She is an excellent student and friend to those around her, showing her true character.”

Best of luck to Addie as she continues to pursue her goals and dreams at Iowa State University!

Our first 2026 Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau Scholarship Spotlight features Reese Berding.

The CGFB scholarship is awarded to a high school senior whose parents/guardians are Farm Bureau members in Cerro Gordo County. Applicants were selected based on academic standing, leadership experience, civil involvement, and their commitment to rural Iowa and the agricultural community.

Reese is the son of Amanda Berding of Mason City. While a student at Central Springs, Reese was involved in FFA and Trapshooting for four years.

Reese’s plans involve attending North Iowa Area Community College where he will study Agriculture.

Per letter of recommendation, “Reese Berding represents the type of student who will be an excellent leader in the next generation of agriculturalists. His commitment to agriculture, proven leadership abilities, and strong character make him highly deserving of scholarship support. I am confident he will continue to make meaningful contributions to the agricultural industry and any organization he becomes part of.”
