Scammers often try to portray themselves as someone they are not, like a family member, friend, or a representative from a bank. With the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), they are getting more successful at stealing money and data than ever. There are ways you can keep yourself safe:
-Be cautious of people who contact you unexpectedly, especially by phone, text, or email.
-Be wary of people requesting to be paid with gift cards. Fraudsters like to be paid with gift cards since they are untraceable.
-Do not share passwords with anyone.
-Do not trust anyone who urges you not to contact your bank or the police.
-Many scams require you to send a small amount of money as a fee in order to release a larger amount of money, do not engage with these scammers.
If you feel unsure or suspicious of a situation, stop and think about it. Scammers often want you to act fast. If it doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t right. Call us at 217-482-3246 or stop by the bank if you need assistance. We are here to help‼️
