Need to file a claim after some of our recent storms? Having the right information beforehand can make the process much easier. Here's what you need to know before you go to file a claim:
- Call your agent or insurance carrier ASAP: Letting your agent or carrier know as soon as you have a claim helps get the process moving faster, which can be especially helpful if the issue is time-sensitive.
- Watch for calls from your adjuster: This may be one of the most important things to keep in mind. Adjusters will usually contact you shortly after your claim is filed with the insurance carrier. If you see a number you don't recognize, it may be your adjuster! Having a delayed response to the adjuster will slow down the claims process, and your claim could get moved behind others that are being adjusted at the same time.
- Prevent further damage: In order for adjusters to properly inspect the loss, preventing further damage from occurring is crucial. Whether you need to shut off water to a busted pipe, or cover a hole in your roof with a tarp, getting the damage under control and preventing further damage will help make the process easier to deal with, and give you a more accurate claims estimate.
