Hurricane straps? That was my response when our builder told me local building code now requires them. According to the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, homes built to Fortified standards pay 65% less in deductibles, so I say... bring on the straps.

Political Risk are real... just ask downtown businesses in Indianapolis. We were having dinner at the Rathskeller the first night of the riots and we haven't been back. 'Loss of attraction' is an indirect damage that can be inflicted on companies. Every business owner should check their insurance policy to see if it covers political violence, strikes, riots and civil commotion.

If you're good with numbers, consider this head scratcher. According to the Insurance Journal, a survey of 2,000 cannabis users in eight states shared the following:

• 84.8% drive the day they consume vs waiting 8 or more hours.
• 1 in 5 believed their driving was worse after cannabis use.
• 49.6% said their driving was the same.
• 14.7% said a little better
• 19.4% said much better
• 29.2% believe a police officer could detect it
• 46.7% did not think they could detect it
• 24.1% were unsure.

Clover is a nuisance to some homeowners, but to others it's joy! So what's the love or hate of Clover got to due with insurance? A Michigan lawn company found out that insurance is very important whey you spray herbicide to kill clover... at the wrong house. While the verdict of $88,550 was reduced to $22,400, never mess with someone who has an "idiosyncratic attachment to her lawn."

Last week I quoted Homeowners insurance for a prospective client and noticed their current company was located in ... New Jersey (?) I'm guessing 15% of their premiums stay in Indiana and the other 85% goes out-of-state. My home office is in Indianapolis, so 100% of the premiums you pay us stay in the Hoosier Nation! If you want a comparison from a well known Indiana company, please let me know.
