Of our cases, 100% of children knew their abuser.

Read that again.

The stereotype is that child abusers are strange men in a white van passing out candy to children. While that could be the case, that is not what we are seeing in Fayette County. In our community the child abuse is being perpetrated by mothers, fathers, uncles, siblings, teachers, family friends, and more- people in children's lives that they are supposed to be able to trust.

Teach your children about stranger danger, but don't forget about the other adults in their lives. It is important to empower children to speak up to a safe adult when they feel uncomfortable by a person or situation, no matter who that is. Communication is key!
