Scammers often ask for unusual forms of payment because it makes it harder to get your money back.

A legitimate business, government agency, financial institution, or family member will **never** ask you to pay using:

• Gift cards
• Cash sent by mail or courier
• Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or similar apps
• Cryptocurrency
• Cash back from an “overpayment”
• A withdrawal where you are told to lie to your financial institution

Scammers may claim you need to pay in order to:

• Pay an IRS or government debt
• Keep your Social Security benefits
• Keep your utilities on
• Pay for tech support
• Invest in an opportunity
• Help a family member in trouble
• Help someone in the military
• Pay bail, ransom, or legal fees
• Avoid arrest, deportation, or legal action

If someone is pressuring you to act quickly, keep the situation secret, or lie about why you are withdrawing money, STOP IMMEDIATELY.

Hang up the phone. Do not send the money.
