It’s important to keep roofs clear of heavy snow to reduce the risk of structural collapse, sagging, or leaks.

Ice roof dams can also form when melting snow refreezes at the eaves, creating a barrier that traps water behind it. That trapped water can back up under shingles and leak into ceilings, walls, and insulation.
