Burlington County is distributing free $40 farmers market vouchers to eligible senior citizens for the purchase of nutritious, fresh produce.

The Burlington County Department of Human Services Office on Aging is accepting applications from seniors for this year’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Qualifying applicants will immediately receive a QR code voucher redeemable for fresh produce and herbs sold at any of 20 participating Burlington County farms and farmers markets.

Last year, 960 Burlington County seniors received vouchers.

“We’ve heard from many senior citizens on fixed incomes who are struggling because of rising food prices and other expenses that make it difficult for them to obtain quality, nutritious foods,” said Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo, liaison to the Department of Human Services. “The Senior Farmers Market Vouchers program provides eligible seniors with a path to obtaining fresh, nutritious produce locally sourced from Burlington County farms. It’s a great program that helps seniors in need as well as the local farms.”

To be eligible, seniors must be 60 or older, reside in Burlington County and have an annual income less than $29,526 for a single and $40,034 for a married couple.

Applications for the program are available from the Burlington County Office on Aging. To request an application, call 609-265-5069 or email [email protected] .

Vouchers are distributed using a QR code accessible from smart phones and other electronic devices. The QR code can be scanned by a participating vendor from an electronic device. The QR code can also be printed out and brought to a participating vendor to scan and redeem.

Twenty Burlington County farms and farmers markets are now participating in the program and are accepting vouchers as payment.

Your Health Insurance Claim Got Denied. Now What?

Your Health Insurance Claim Got Denied. Now What?

It’s like a punch in the gut. You visit a specialist or have a medical procedure done only to find your health insurer has denied your claim in a nondescript letter received in the mail. You went to the doctor, did everything you were supposed to do, and now, they say they are not going to pay.

I wanted to share this with everyone regarding a 7 year old boy from the town in which I grew up, that is battling cancer. I will be there along with my family to be part of this parade and to give this young man a very special birthday. If any of you are in close proximity to the Echelon Mall, I hope you will consider it as well....

Is it surprising to anyone that I’m a fan of the Habs?

So today I was able to save 2 seperate clients a total of $350 a month on their Medicare Supplemental Plan premiums.... One lady just had her supplemental plan go up over $400 a month, and we got her a new plan with the exact same benefits for $199.... She was literally over the moon with excitement... The 2nd lady was paying nearly $350 and we got her a plan at $200, a savings of $150 a month, and neither of them had to forfeit any benefits at all..... The 2nd lady has already said she wants to take Sharon and I out to dinner in appreciation for finding her $150 a month......
This is the reason why we do what we do... To make a difference in people's lives and to make their burder easier..... This is what makes the happiest and the proudest is knowing that I was able to help someone and leave them in a better place than which I found them......
It's a good day when you know someone is happy and you're the reason for it....

What Is Medicare, Really? A Plain-Language Breakdown for Anyone Approaching 65

What Is Medicare, Really? A Plain-Language Breakdown for Anyone Approaching 65

If you are getting close to age 65, you have probably heard the word Medicare more times than you can count. But for something so widely mentioned, it can feel surprisingly confusing when you actually sit down to figure out what it covers, what it costs, and what you need to do.

Recently, many people have been switching back to Original Medicare with a supplemental plan and here are some reasons why:
1)Shrinking Provider Networks-MedAdvantage Plans limit which docs and hospitals you can use.
*Many seniors discover docs and specialists are out of Networks, forcing them to either switch networks or pay higher co-pays if not full cost.
*Medigaps allow you to see any doc nationwide that accept Medicare
2)Prior Authorization Delays & Denials-MA plans require insurers to approve many tests, procedures, and treatments before care is delivered.
*In 2023, MA insurers denied 3.2 million prior-authorization requests
*Over 25% of physicians say these delays put patients at risk.
*Some experience hospitalizations or permanent harm due to these risks...

3)Higher Out of Pocket Costs than Expected-MA Plans advertise $0 premiums but:
*Copays for specialists, imaging, ER visits and hospital stays add up fast.
*Serious illness (cancer, heart disease, chronic conditions) can push costs towards the $9,000+ annual out of pocket max

Medicare supps (Plans G or N) provide more predictable costs.

4)Reduced perks and cuts in 2025-26:
*Insurers are trimming benefits due to rising costs and lower federal reimbursement.
*Dental/vision allowances reduced
*Gym memberships dropped in many markets
*Higher co-pays
*Fewer plan extras..

5)Plans Leaving Markets or cutting Networks:
*Some insurers have pulled out of entire counties and states, forcing seniors into Special Enrollment Periods.
*When plan exits, seniors must scramble to find a new plan.
*Many choose Medigap for long term benefit stability....

6)Desire for Predictability and Control:
*Fewer Administrative Hassles
*Freedom to choose doctor
*No surprises
*No insurer interference in treatment decisions.

Bottom Line: Med Advantage works for those who are healthy with very low usage of plans..
But as people age, into late 70's & 80's they may develop chronic conditions, the limitations may be more painful.
*Denials, co-pays, co-insurance, too many network restrictions, and too many delays...

It's definitely worth noting that attempting to move to a supplemental/medigap plan later down the road, means having to pass the underwriting phase... If you cannot pass the underwriting than the supplemental plan may either charge you a higher premium due to that health issue, or they may simply deny your application altogether, putting you in a position of not being able to leave the realm of Medicare Advantage Plans.....where your only option would be to go to a different Advantage Plan.......
This is something that we see all the time...
