🚨FLOOD RECOVERY UPDATE & IMPORTANT RESOURCES🚨
After spending the day gathering information and working with state and local officials, I wanted to share several important updates and resources for those impacted by flooding.
📍 Your Local Fire Departments Are Resource Hubs
Our local fire departments are serving as distribution centers for recovery supplies, including:
• Fans
• Dehumidifiers
• Ice
• Cleaning supplies
• Buckets
• Other recovery essentials
The primary distribution hub is the Moreauville Fire Department, but supplies are being distributed to other local departments based on need.
🏠 What Your State Government Is Doing Right Now
1. Debris Removal
As you clean out your homes, place flood-damaged debris along the roadside. The state already has debris removal contracts in place, and pickup operations are being initiated.
2. Transitional Housing
Housing assistance resources are being mobilized.
• 50 housing trailers are currently in inventory.
• Contracts are in place for hotel room blocks.
• Additional housing resources will be deployed as needs are identified.
Parish officials will use submitted housing information to help determine needs and allocate resources.

📋 REPORT YOUR DAMAGE IMMEDIATELY

Be as detailed as possible. The information you provide helps local, state, and federal officials document the scope of this disaster and pursue available assistance. There is a threshold of documented damage that must be met before certain state and federal resources can be approved. As cliché as it sounds, we are asking you to help us help you.
📸 DOCUMENT EVERYTHING
Keep records. Save receipts. Take photos.
Please photograph:
• Water lines inside every affected room
• Exterior flood impacts
• Structural damage
• Personal property damage
• Cleanup efforts
If federal assistance becomes available, documentation will be critical. There are no guarantees, but if opportunities for assistance arise, we want you to have every piece of information necessary to maximize any available aid. If you don’t have the documentation, you won’t have anything to submit.
🏡 INSURANCE INFORMATION
• Most homeowners insurance policies do not cover flood damage; however, contact your insurance agent immediately and discuss your specific situation.
• Document everything before and during cleanup.
• Flood-damaged drywall and insulation generally need to be removed promptly.
If you experience issues with claims or denials, please let us know. The Louisiana Department of Insurance is prepared to assist residents as issues arise.
❤️ MOST IMPORTANTLY
Faith-based organizations are proving once again to be the hands, feet, and hope of recovery efforts. Government can help in many ways, but there are legal limits to what government can do. Churches, ministries, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations are stepping into the gaps and serving families in remarkable ways.
These organizations are actively seeking volunteers. Please consider helping if you are physically able. There is a tremendous amount of work to be done, and every helping hand makes a difference. The organizations can sign you up, train you, and put you to work the very same day.
Whether it’s mucking out homes, distributing supplies, serving meals, praying with families, or helping coordinate relief efforts, there is a place for you to serve.

📌 A Quick Note About Requesting Assistance
Many of the faith-based and nonprofit organizations serving our communities are working together and coordinating relief efforts. If you are requesting assistance from multiple organizations, please let them know. While these groups communicate regularly, sharing that information helps prevent duplicate requests, allows resources to be distributed more efficiently, and helps ensure that as many families as possible receive assistance as quickly as possible.
The goal is not to discourage you from reaching out for help—please do. We simply ask that you communicate openly so these organizations can serve everyone effectively and make the best use of available volunteers, supplies, and resources.
