Shamrock Insurance began with a road trip, a love story, and a man who made Marion, Ohio his home.
Attorney Michael Sean Grimes came to Marion by way of a weekend road trip, but the visit changed the course of his life. A New Jersey native, Michael met Mary Anne Frericks, fell in love, married her in 1982, and built a life in Marion rooted in family, law, public service, community involvement, and lasting local relationships.
In 1987, Michael purchased McAndrew Insurance Agency, an independent agency that had served Marion since World War II. He renamed it Shamrock Insurance, carrying his Irish roots into a business he would lead for more than 30 years.
Today, his daughter Katie Grimes carries that legacy forward as the agency principal and owner of Shamrock Insurance Agency.
A Marion native, Harding High School graduate, and University of Notre Dame alumna, Katie spent years in education as a high school teacher in Chicago and later as a tenured theology professor at Villanova University.
After returning home, Katie followed her father into the insurance business. She managed both Shamrock Insurance and Herr Insurance Agency before purchasing both businesses and continuing Shamrock’s second-generation independent agency legacy.
Today, she leads Shamrock with an educator’s approach, helping clients understand their risks, compare their options, and choose coverage with confidence before life puts a policy to the test.
