🚨 SCAM OF THE WEEK: COMPUTER VIRUS SCAMS 🚨
Scammers know that nothing creates panic faster than hearing, “Your computer is infected.” Computer virus scams rely on fear and urgency to trick victims into handing over money, personal information, or remote access to their devices.
💻 WHAT IS A COMPUTER VIRUS SCAM?
Computer virus scams involve fake warnings, pop-up alerts, or unsolicited phone calls claiming your computer has malware. Scammers often pose as “tech support” from well-known companies and pressure victims into downloading fake software or paying for unnecessary repairs.
⚠️ COMMON COMPUTER VIRUS SCAM TACTICS
🔴 Fake Tech Support Calls
Scammers call claiming to be from “Microsoft” or “Windows Support,” insisting your computer is infected and needs immediate repair.
🔴 Scareware Pop-Ups
Alarming pop-up ads warn that viruses have been detected and prompt you to click for “free antivirus software.” The download actually installs malware.
🔴 Remote Access Scams
Victims are convinced to grant remote access, allowing scammers to steal files, passwords, and financial data.
🔴 Fake Antivirus Software
Fraudsters sell useless or malicious software, often charging expensive “one-time” or “lifetime” protection fees.
