The Marion Fire Department has experienced a large rise in space heater related fires in the past week. The danger created when these products are used improperly is extreme, especially when unattended or while sleeping.

The use of extension cords with these objects seems to be the most common cause of fires, with the heater being too close to flammable objects or falling over the other common causes.
