A Visit We Won't Soon Forget
Most visitors who walk through our doors are here to make a deposit, apply for a loan, or handle their banking needs. Recently, however, we welcomed someone with a very different request.
Mr. William Allgood stopped by our Marion branch in search of something many of us take for granted: a bank bag.
What seemed like an unusual request quickly turned into one of the most fascinating stories we've heard. Since 1991, Mr. Allgood has been collecting bank bags from financial institutions across the country as part of a project inspired by his family's deep roots in banking. What began with just four inherited bank bags has grown into a collection of nearly 1,000 pieces, each representing a unique chapter in banking history.
More than just collecting bags, Mr. Allgood has spent decades preserving the stories behind the institutions they represent, documenting bank histories, mergers, acquisitions, and the evolution of community banking across America.
We were honored to add Marion Community Bank to his remarkable collection and to play a small part in preserving this unique piece of financial history. Thank you, Mr. Allgood, for sharing your story with us and for reminding us that every bank, every community, and yes, even every bank bag, has a story worth telling.
