Handing over the keys to a new teen driver is exciting... and maybe a little nerve-racking for parents! 😅

Building safe driving habits starts long before teens are driving on their own. Here are a few important things to practice:

🚘 Start with the basics — Make sure they know the vehicle controls, mirrors, lights, wipers, hazard lights and dashboard indicators.

🅿️ Practice somewhere comfortable — Start in empty parking lots or quiet neighborhoods before moving into heavier traffic and highway driving.

📵 Put the phone away — Talk about distracted driving and set expectations for phone use before they start driving independently.

👥 Limit distractions from passengers — Friends in the vehicle can be a major distraction for inexperienced drivers.

🌧️ Practice different conditions — Once they're comfortable, gradually introduce nighttime driving, highways, rain and other challenging conditions.

👀 Most importantly: Set the example. Teens spend years watching how their parents drive. Buckle up, put the phone away, follow traffic laws and demonstrate the habits you want them to develop.

Comprehensive coverage helps protect your vehicle from certain things that don't involve colliding with another vehicle—such as animal strikes, hail, theft, vandalism, and falling objects.
