Applications are now being accepted for the Elevate Florida program that will cover at least 75% of the cost to elevate ground-level homes.
The state-managed program’s goal is to enhance community resilience by mitigating private residences against natural hazards. Eligible projects include structure elevation, mitigation reconstruction for homes not structurally sound enough to elevate, wind mitigation and the acquisition and demolition of ground-level homes to create more undeveloped open space. Applicants must be over the age of 18, U.S. citizens, the legal owner of the residential property and able to contribute up to 25% of the project’s total cost. Duplexes, triplexes, condos, townhomes, semi-detached homes, apartments and manufactured homes may also be eligible. The property does not need to have experienced flooding or damage in the past to be considered, but applications may be prioritized based on the history of loss. Secondary residences may be considered if sufficient funding is available. Even though MARCO ISLAND and NAPLES are not in the direct path as of this morning please stay prepared.
1. Fill your gas tanks--gas may NOT be available after storm.
2. Make sure you have your medicines and important papers available if evacuation is necessary.
3. Have some cash available if necessary.
4. If you leave Island make sure someone knows where you are going.
