Many people assume that ads appearing in their social media feeds have been thoroughly checked and approved, but that's not always the case. Scammers can easily pay to place ads that mimic trusted brands, promote counterfeit products, or promise unrealistic investment opportunities.

According to the FTC, consumers reported losing more than $95 million in 2025 to scams that began with purchases made through social media ads, and actual losses are likely much higher.

Before you buy, research the company and search for reviews, complaints, or scam reports. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is!
