It looks like Long Term Care coverage will be a big topic for all the candidates in the upcoming 2020 Presidential Election campaign season. It is a major issue - over 2/3rds of all Retirees end up needing Long-Term Care (aka "Extended Care") assistance at some point. But, unfortunately Long-Term Care remains by far the hugest gap in Medicare health care coverage for Retirees. Thus, Long-Term Care costs are the #1 reason why so many Retirees lose their life savings, lose their homes, and go bankrupt. In fact, more than 70% of Retirees spend ALL their Life's savings on healthcare expenses, and end up on MedicAid and other State assistance. Yet nearly every Senior turning 65 and new to Medicare that I meet with on a daily basis - is unaware that Medicare offers exactly $0 of Long-Term Care coverage - and have no Plan in place for dealing with that huge financial gap.
"Medicare-for-all" is unlikely to advance in the Republican-controlled Senate, but it's become a defining issue in the early days of the Democratic primary. Candidates point to their support of Sanders' legislation as proof of their progressive politics.
