“What’s the deal with Medicare Part A and Part B, and do I need both?”

Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers inpatient care, skilled nursing, hospice, and some home health. Most people don’t pay a monthly premium if they or a spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.

Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and durable medical equipment. Part B does have a monthly premium that starts at $202.90.

So, do I need both?

Most people enroll in both because Part B is required to have full coverage and avoid late enrollment penalties. You will also need to have both to get either a supplement or an advantage plan.

If you have current employer coverage or coverage through your spouse, sometimes Part B can be delayed, but it’s important to plan carefully to avoid penalties.

“Should I still have copays on Medicare?”

Original Medicare (Part A & B) Only: You’re generally responsible for copays, coinsurance, and deductibles for most services. Medicare covers a big portion, but not everything.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap): These plans help pay your copays and deductibles. Depending on your plan, many services may end up with $0 out-of-pocket.

Medicare Advantage (Part C): Copays, coinsurance and deductible still exist, but they are set by the plan rather than standardized like Parts A and B. Some visits may cost just a few dollars, while others (like specialist care or hospital stays) could be higher.

💡 Tip: Not sure if a bill is correct? Give me a call and we can check what your plan should be covering.

Did you know Medicare Supplements and Advantage plans work differently when it comes to changing coverage?

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans: You can switch at any time, though the carriers will ask a few health questions.

Medicare Advantage plans: It’s usually best to switch during Open Enrollment (Oct 15 – Dec 7 or Jan 1 - Mar 31). Why? Because changing outside this window could mean losing your prescription drug coverage. (Good news, we are in one of those windows!)

💡 Tip: If you are on a supplement, it never hurts to price check! All plans of the same type (like a plan F or G) cover the EXACT same way, regardless of what insurance company they are through.

Grateful for a great night at the Women in Business Resolution Rendezvous with the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce. We were asked to choose a word for the year, and mine was agile for staying flexible, responsive and ready to meet people where they are.

That word fits where I am right now: growing, adapting and being responsive as I build my business and support this community.

Big thanks to the Chamber and Women in Business committee for hosting such a thoughtful event (and for the photos to remember it by!). Looking forward to a strong year ahead alongside so many great local businesses.

Not loving your Medicare Advantage plan? Interested in swapping back to original Medicare?
Good news: Open Enrollment is open.
Bad news: Ignoring it won’t make it better.
Either way, it is good to check if your plan is still the best fit. Let’s take a look and see what your options are.

Calmly screaming this from the rooftops...

01/08/2026

I’m a licensed insurance professional, and I take the work seriously, but we can also have some fun (who says insurance has to be boring?).

These decisions matter, but I believe they’re best made through real conversation. No rushing. No pressure. Just getting grounded in what the options actually mean and whether they’re even a good fit for you.

If you or someone in your circle is:
• Turning 65 or starting Medicare
• Wanting to price check their supplement
• Needing to check an advantage plan during this OEP (Jan 1-Mar 31)
• Looking at life or final expense insurance
• Feeling overwhelmed by ACA premiums
• Not totally sure what they have or what they need

Then let’s talk. Just talk. Think of it like a no-pressure first date.

It’s a new year, and we’re not putting off the things we’ve been avoiding anymore.

New year, quick re-intro.

Hi, I’m Milea. A few important things about me:

🪴 I love indoor plants. Like… a lot. If you come to my office, you’ll see I’m already in double digits.
🍞 I’m a novice sourdough girl. Emphasis on novice. It’s a work in progress.
💜 My husband and I are big K-State fans and season ticket holders for football and basketball. Holding our breath for this week’s AZ schedule.

More yapping about insurance to come. That’s the fun stuff.
