Rates on the decline just a bit this morning after generally positive comments from Fed Chair Powell yesterday. A September rate cut is looking likely at this point.

The Montana Department of Revenue is hosting a number of public forums across the county where folks can come ask questions about their new property tax appraisals they just sent notices about.

It's important to understand that even if your notice indicates that your property's market value has increased over the past two years, this does not necessarily mean your property taxes will go up the same percentage.

And tax estimates included in the notice are based on last year's data, which will not remain the same and thereby renders the estimate inaccurate.

If you'd like to better understand your appraisal notice and learn how the taxation process works, join the Montana DOR at upcoming public forums to get your questions answered.

Meetings in Gallatin County will be at the following locations:
