🇺🇸🇻🇳 30 Years of U.S.–Vietnam Relations | Partnership Built Over Time

Vietnam Partners was honored to attend AmCham Vietnam’s event marking 30 years of U.S.–Vietnam relations (1995–2025)—a milestone that reflects the steady evolution of trust, cooperation, and shared growth between the two countries.

This occasion is especially meaningful for our firm. Bradley C. Lalonde, Co-Founder of Vietnam Partners, first came to Vietnam in April 1994, more than 30 years ago, during the earliest days of the country’s re-engagement with the global economy. Since then, he has witnessed—and contributed to—Vietnam’s transformation through long-term advisory, investment, and ecosystem-building work across multiple cycles of market development.

Over three decades, bilateral trade between the U.S. and Vietnam has grown from less than USD 500 million in 1995 to approximately USD 150+ billion today, making the relationship one of the most dynamic economic partnerships in the region. This growth has been driven not only by policy, but by sustained private-sector engagement in areas such as finance, education, innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

We thank AmCham Vietnam for convening leaders from government and business to reflect on this important milestone—and to help shape the next chapter of cooperation.

🇺🇸🇻🇳 30 Năm Quan hệ Hoa Kỳ – Việt Nam | Quan hệ Đối tác được Vun đắp qua Thời gian

Vietnam Partners vinh dự tham dự sự kiện của AmCham Vietnam kỷ niệm 30 năm quan hệ Hoa Kỳ – Việt Nam (1995–2025). Đây là cột mốc quan trọng phản ánh sự phát triển vững chắc của lòng tin, sự hợp tác và sự tăng trưởng chung giữa hai quốc gia.

Sự kiện này mang ý nghĩa đặc biệt đối với chúng tôi. Ông Bradley C. Lalonde – Đồng sáng lập Vietnam Partners – đã đặt chân đến Việt Nam lần đầu tiên vào tháng 4 năm 1994, cách đây hơn 30 năm, ngay trong những ngày đầu đất nước tái hội nhập với nền kinh tế toàn cầu. Kể từ đó, ông không chỉ là nhân chứng mà còn là người trực tiếp đóng góp vào sự chuyển mình của Việt Nam thông qua các hoạt động tư vấn, đầu tư dài hạn và xây dựng hệ sinh thái qua nhiều chu kỳ phát triển của thị trường.

Trong ba thập kỷ qua, thương mại song phương giữa Hoa Kỳ và Việt Nam đã tăng trưởng vượt bậc, từ mức dưới 500 triệu USD năm 1995 lên khoảng hơn 150 tỷ USD ngày nay, đưa mối quan hệ này trở thành một trong những quan hệ đối tác kinh tế năng động nhất trong khu vực. Sự tăng trưởng này không chỉ được thúc đẩy bởi chính sách, mà còn nhờ sự tham gia bền bỉ của khối tư nhân trong các lĩnh vực như tài chính, giáo dục, đổi mới sáng tạo, phát triển bền vững và khởi nghiệp.

Chúng tôi xin cảm ơn AmCham Vietnam đã kết nối các nhà lãnh đạo chính phủ và doanh nghiệp để cùng nhìn lại cột mốc quan trọng này, đồng thời góp phần định hình chương tiếp theo cho mối quan hệ hợp tác.

Today, Vietnam Partners LLC (VPLLC), in collaboration with faculty from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business's Action-Based Learning Projects: MAP & Consulting Studio, engaged with a group of MAP MBA candidates from the Ross School of Business.

This session focused on providing insights into the Vietnamese innovation ecosystem and exploring strategies to strengthen the competitive advantage of the Vietnamese workforce and leadership in the era of AI and global uncertainty. Hosted by VPLLC and led by Mr. Bradley Lalonde, a University of Michigan alumnus, and Prof. Paul Clyde, Clinical Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy, this initiative underscored the value of Action-Based Learning (ABL) projects like MAP. We extend our sincere thanks to all partners who joined us today, including the InnoEx Community, AEGIS Global Insurance & Risk Management Consulting Company, First Move Group JSC, and SVC Foods Pte. Ltd., for sharing our vision and mission of sustainable development.

Since 2017, VPLLC has annually hosted MAP MBA candidates in Vietnam, facilitating a variety of project types and serving as a bridge between local associations and U.S./global stakeholders. The middle class in Vietnam is expected to account for 26% of the country’s population by 2026, up from 13% in 2023, according to the report by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. The rapid increase of the affluent and middle class generates tremendous opportunities for wealth management services.

"According to insight by McKinsey, the personal financial assets (PFA) market of Vietnam is projected to reach $600 billion by 2027, growing at a rate of 11% per year from a baseline of $360 billion as of the end of 2022."

With a population of 100 million people, the wealth management market of Vietnam can top in Southeast Asia in the next decade. Currently, most individual investors lack knowledge about personal financial planning – a reason why many lose money and get scammed when investing on their own.

Vietnamese individuals participating in financial investments currently account for around 7-8% of the country’s population, compared to the rates of 40-80% in many other countries.
