❤️ Last but certainly not least, meet Kona! ❤️

Our final new arrival from our trip to the San Jacinto Animal Campus is a very special senior boy named Kona.

Kona is 10 years old and came to the county shelter as an owner surrender. He had been there since mid-August, and when our kennel staff saw him, it seemed like he was beginning to lose hope. They knew this sweet boy deserved a chance, so we brought him to Living Free.

When Kona first arrived, he was very shut down and skittish. But after being met with nothing but patience, kindness, and love, we've already started to see him come out of his shell. ❤️

Kona has such a soft and gentle soul. He's a sweet boy who is learning that people can be trusted again—and he LOVES butt scratches more than just about anything! 😂🐾 He also has good leash manners, which is always a nice bonus.

We can't wait to watch Kona continue to blossom and discover more of the happy, loving dog we know is in there. More than anything, though, we hope he doesn't have to wait much longer for a family of his own. He deserves to spend his golden years feeling safe, loved, and cherished.

🐱 **Got extra cardboard trays? We need them!**

These simple cardboard trays make perfect disposable litter pans for our kittens, and we go through a lot of them!

If you have any extras from Costco, grocery stores, or produce deliveries, we'd love to take them off your hands!

In response to community concerns about off-leash dogs at Wilson Park, we are taking proactive steps to reinforce park safety and responsible pet ownership.

We are partnering with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control to conduct targeted enforcement at Wilson Park on October 15 and 21, 2026. Animal Control Officers will patrol the park to address leash violations, and citations may be issued.

As a reminder, dogs must remain on a leash while visiting Wilson Park. Following leash requirements helps protect pets, park visitors, and our community.
