Dominic J Bossone
March 31, 1938 - January 19, 2026
Dominic Bossone lived life his way. With steadfast determination and a relentless work ethic, he willed himself into a man who was vigorously prepared for whatever obstacles life put in front of him. He willingly bore the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, and taught us how to find that strength in ourselves. And he leaves behind a legacy that will shape his family for generations to come.
Born of southern Italian immigrants Domenico Bossone and Yolanda Cecere, Dominic was one of ten children between them. He was born and spent most of his young life in Long Branch, New Jersey, while also living for eight years in Youngstown, Ohio and one year in his father’s Italian ancestral home of Lauro. He wed Marguerite Strollo in 1960 and they were married for 60 years. He now joins her in paradise.
In 1964 Dominic boldly set off to pursue the American Dream. Armed with the experience he had learned from his restaurateur parents, he opened a small pizzeria in the back room of a bar in Manasquan. For the next six decades, he worked ferociously to create something from nothing, and the iconic Squan Tavern was his pride and joy. He cherished his customers, and his lifelong mission was to serve them in a way that would make his parents equally proud. He gave tirelessly to the Manasquan and surrounding Jersey shore communities, and earned the status of local legend. Mr. Bossone will sorely be missed, but even more surely he will miss the community he treasured.
Dominic was very much a man of his generation, and though Marguerite did most of the heavy lifting when it came to raising their children, his powerful presence and steadfast support bred confidence and competence. He did the best he knew how to generously provide for his children, and to prepare them for a world that he would one day leave. They are grateful for all that he gave them, and understanding for that which he couldn’t. He departs this world honored by his children... Dominic III, Ro and Kevin, Trish, Joe and Patti, and Michael and Tressy; his grandchildren… Casie, Monica, Dominic IV, Tyler, Nicole, Brian, Julia, Rachel, Christin, Meredith, Joey, Nick, Aidan, and Aria; his great grandchildren... Dylan, Eddie, Luca, Olive, Maddox, Samantha, Charlotte, Norbie, and Arnie; and his brother Carmen. His grandson CJ awaits him in heaven.
Dominic lived his life without reservation. He savored the very best foods and wines. He not only loved Sinatra’s voice, he shared his passion for sharp suits, fine cars, signet rings, and strong bourbon. He was equally proud of his Italian blood and his American patriotism. He was obsessive in his rituals, and prolific in his taping of notes on any flat surface. He was easily moved to tears, and inherited his father’s uproarious laugh that annually left a housefull of family slapping their knees after the Feast of the Seven Fishes. His singing of his beloved Neapolitan folk songs will continue to echo throughout the walls of his home, and deep within the memories of our hearts and minds.
Rest well, Dad. You earned it. And we love you.
