*MULTI-PURPOSE VEHICLE ANNOUNCEMENT*
Starting December 1st, Multi-Purpose or side-by-side vehicles can be registered and tagged in the State of Georgia. They will only be permitted to be driven on COUNTY ROADS, not city or state roads.
All Barrow County vehicles to be tagged under this classification must meet the following requirements:
• Sheriff’s Department inspection
• Owner signed affidavit
• Vehicle Insurance
• Uses a steering wheel (no handlebars)
• Operates between 25-65 mph
• Width equal to or less than 80 inches
• Minimum cargo capacity of 350 lbs.
• Uses a non-straddle seat
• Travels on 4 or more wheels
• Gross weight less than 4,000 lbs.
• Has features specifically intended for utility use
• UTV – Built by manufacturer for task purposes
• Have a valid VIN
• Headlights
• Brake lights
• A rear-view mirror
• Taillights
• Safety Belts
This registration cannot be applied to golf carts, off-road recreational vehicles, such as dune buggies and sand rails, or any vehicle designed or manufactured for on-road use.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND:
• These vehicles CANNOT be driven on state or city streets.
• All vehicles must be operated by a licensed driver.
• Proof of ownership is required for registration.
• Must have a manufactured date of 2000 or newer.
• Insurance must be maintained at all times.
(This cannot be a recreational policy. It must be a private passenger auto policy and be transmitted by your insurance company to the GEICS system just like any other vehicle.)
