⚠️ Speeding, DUI & Dangerous Discovery ⚠️

What started as a speed stop in Madera County, quickly turned into much more.

On August 22, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a silver Ford Mustang was observed traveling at a high rate of speed, on eastbound SR-145, west of SR-41. The driver (26-year-old man from Madera) was arrested for DUI, after determining he was under the influence.

During a vehicle inventory, officers discovered an AK-47 rifle, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. The driver was booked at the Madera County Jail for DUI, weapons, and drug charges.

In a response to recent incidents in the City of Madera, the Madera Police Department partnered with CDCR Parole Agents for a “Zero Tolerance” parole sweep. The primary focus of this operation was to contact parolees within our city and its immediate outskirts, to ensure their strict compliance to the stipulations of their parole terms. Yesterday, members of the Madera Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, Detective Unit and CDC Parole (35 Officers total) launched the operation. At the conclusion of the parole sweep, Officers made 17 arrests. Two of the arrests were of persons not on parole that were booked on felony charges related to warrants and possession of ammunition. Of the 15 parolees arrested, 6 are facing new criminal charges, which range from possession of drug paraphernalia to possession of a flare gun. Without a doubt this operation made a positive impact within our community and we are thankful for the support and assistance from our allied agencies.

CHRISTMAS SHOOTING UPDATE:

On Christmas day, Madera Police responded to the parking lot of the Vallarta Supermarket regarding shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Since the shooting, Madera Police Detectives worked diligently to identify persons of interest. On 1/2/24, Detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the city of Madera, which resulted in locating evidence related to the shooting, including the firearm that was used. Jose Ramos, a Madera resident, was placed under arrest for the shooting and was booked at the Madera County Jail for attempted murder and other felony charges related to the incident.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT RESULTS IN HOMICIDE IN MADERA

On December 14, 2023 shortly after 5pm, the Madera County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call from an area hospital regarding a patient under their care who had sustained injuries inconsistent with the reported event.

MCSO Deputies initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and confirmed the victim, 44 year old Mandy Burriel, was transported by EMS from the 16000 block of Krohn St in Madera on 12/14/23 for a reported fall. The victim’s boyfriend, 52 year old Scott Allen, was the reporting party.

During the course of their investigation, Allen was taken into custody and booked on charges of aggravated assault.

Unfortunately, Ms. Burriel succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital. The charges against Allen will now be amended to murder.
