ANNOUNCING THE 2026 ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS....

This year again we are awarding 3 scholarships! 2 traditional, and 1 non-traditional scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.

The Non-traditional scholarship winner is:

Krista Wright, WCCC nursing student set to graduate in December of 2026. Her impressive scholarship essay, and her already proven dedication to the people of Washington County were among just a few of the attributes that won her the award.

Maggie O'Rourke is a soon to be graduate of Calais High School Class of 2026. She has clocked over 150 hours of community service while in high school all while maintaining a near perfect GPA. She will be attending University of Maine in the Fall of 2026.

Riley Balicki is a soon to be graduate from Jonesport-Beals High School. From a nursing family, she will be a huge asset to the Downeast Maine community when she graduates. An impressive essay, and near perfect grades helped her clinch the award. Riley will be attending Eastern Maine Community College in the fall of 2026.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to Krista, Maggie, and Riley. Your futures are bright. We can't wait to work along side of you!

Memorial Scholarship

The inspiration for this scholarship is to honor the memory of Donna Renshaw RN, BSN, CNOR, RNFA for her love of family, community and Nursing.

Born in Newfoundland, Donna came to Down East Maine as a Registered Nurse. She filled numerous roles at Down East Community Hospital including: Nursing Supervisor, Med Surg Charge Nurse and Operating Room Nurse. She was also a dedicated liaison for the New England Organ Bank. No matter which role she was in, she was a fierce patient advocate.
While working full time, she completed her BSN as well as obtaining two additional OR certifications. She valued Nursing education and mentored many young Nurses. She treasured her family both here and in Newfoundland, and loved being a grandmother.

Annually, beginning in May 2024 a $1000 scholarship will be awarded to two individuals who are pursuing a Registered Nurse program. The recipients will be dedicated and highly motivated individuals, and must be Washington County residents.

The first scholarship will be awarded to a traditional student accepted into a Registered Nurse program the same year as their High School Graduation.

The second scholarship will be awarded to a non traditional student accepted into a Registered Nurse Program at least one year after their High School graduation.

The recipients will be announced approximately June 1, 2026. Funds will be dispersed after successful completion of the first semester, a GPA >3.0 and proof of Second Semester registration.
