âThe arrest of this detention center officer for conspiring with inmates to introduce a large quantity of co***ne, a cellular phone, a phone charger, dozens of Suboxone strips, and other contraband into the detention center is very disturbing,â stated Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.
âThe Oath of Office, badge and uniform are symbols of trust, and when that trust is betrayed, it undermines the safety of our detention facility, our staff, our inmates, and the public we are sworn to protect.
Wilkins said while Bethea was an employee of our agency, âshe does not represent the values, professionalism, or integrity of the Robeson County Sheriffâs Office. â
He applauded the work of the Sheriffâs Office Drug Enforcement Division.
âFrom the moment they discovered this activity was taking place, the team along with federal task force officers investigated the case thoroughly and professionally.
The safety of our detention center depends on strict accountability. We will continue our efforts to stop the illegal introduction of drugs and other contraband and ensure those responsible will be held accountable.â
Bethea was hired in August of 2025 and was terminated after her arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests are anticipated.
