📢 Important Update About Health Insurance Enrollment for Low-Income Families

I wanted to share an important change that may affect members of our community, especially those without health insurance.

🛑 The Marketplace (Healthcare.gov) is ending the Low-Income Special Enrollment Period (SEP) — this means that after AUGUST 25, 2025, people with low income who are currently uninsured will no longer be able to sign up for coverage year-round through this special exception.

✅ Who is not affected?
If you're already enrolled in a Marketplace plan, you're not impacted by this change. You can continue renewing or updating your coverage as usual.

💡 What does this mean going forward?
Starting in AUGUST 25th, 2025, uninsured individuals with low income will only be able to enroll during Open Enrollment (usually Nov 1–Jan 15) unless they qualify for another type of Special Enrollment Period — like having a baby, losing other coverage, or moving. WITH PROOF

👩‍👧‍👦 Why this matters: Many families in our community depend on these low-cost health plans. Without year-round access, missing Open Enrollment could mean going without insurance until the next open enrollment.

So if you still have not enrolled in health insurance and you don’t have a valid reason and are low income, you have until 08/25 to do so.
