As Memorial Day travel ramps up, DPS increases patrols from May 11–25, as part of the All-American Enforcement Campaign and Operation CARE.

The focus is simple: buckle up, put the phone down and drive responsibly. Seat belts save lives, and distracted driving puts everyone at risk. Drivers are also reminded to follow Texas’ Move Over, Slow Down law to protect first responders and roadside workers.

A recent video we shared generated a lot of questions about “illegal window tint”. Here are the basics: 🚗Driver and front passenger windows can have window tint that allows 25% light transmission 🚙 All other side and rear windows can be as dark as you want 🚘 The windshield cannot have any tinting below the “AS-1” line. The photo shows an example of illegal window and windshield tinting.

Beginning at midnight on May 5, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Highway Patrol Troopers will be out across the state for a one-day increased enforcement period for Cinco de Mayo. Troopers will be watching for impaired driving, distracted driving and other dangerous behaviors – working to keep our roads safe.
