Question: How do I get proof of insurance for my car/truck quickly?

Answer: You’ll want to reach out to an agent who can both quote and bind coverage quickly. As an agent, I have carriers who I can get this done within 10-15 minutes. You also want to make sure your agent is running your reports when they are quoting you so that you are sure you have the most accurate premium. Most agents these days are busy, so I'd recommend setting up a time to get you out of the DMV and on the road as fast as you can!

Reality: Insurance is based on rebuild cost, not market value, which can actually be higher OR lower than purchase price. This depends on many factors, including labor + material costs

Question: Should I increase my deductible to lower my premiums?

Answer: This is a tough question and depends on the person. If you can’t even remember the last time you filed a claim, it could make sense if the higher deductible is something you could handle. If you file a lot of claims or see the potential, it may make sense to keep them lower. Many families will set their comprehensive deductible lower than their collision deductible on their auto, as hail is so common here. It also never hurts to shop around, you may be able to have a lower deductible without paying more every month

Smoker Safety Tips 💨🥩

Summer's here, and there's nothing like some slow cooked food in the sun with good company. Here are some smoker safety tips!

The two most common ways a smoker catches fire are grease fires and hopper fires...

- To prevent grease fires, clean your smoker regularly, and only use the open flame to sear if you are watching it.

- Hopper fires are caused by "backburning" - the flame going back towards the pellets instead of up into the grill. What works for me is setting the pellet flow to the fastest setting + not overfilling the hopper

- Make sure you keep the lid open after you start the smoker, until the smoke clears and it fires up. If you leave the lid closed, the smoker can actually explode from all the smoke combusting!

- Keep a fire extinguisher and/or blanket nearby. Oven mitts are great to have handy too in case you need to move anything in the smoker

Myth: Full Coverage on my auto insurance will pay for the entire amount on my car note

Reality: Full Coverage only covers for the market value of the car, not the remaining balance on the loan. To cover the difference between the market value and the remaining amount on the loan, you would need gap insurance. Example: If your car is worth $2000 and you owe $2,300 on the loan, you have a $300 gap. This is a very common misconception I see as many lenders require you to have Full Coverage to get the loan, but not gap insurance.

Question: What happens if my home insurance is non-renewing me, but my lender also required me to get insurance to buy my home?

Answer: In most cases, your lender would purchase force-placed insurance on your behalf and add it to your monthly payment. This is almost always more expensive than any other option. I work with numerous Surplus Lines carriers that can take on higher risks, that move quickly and can get you insured long ahead of your non-renewal date
