Illinois employers, take note!

Starting June 1, 2026, Illinois employers with 16+ employees will be required to provide unpaid, job-protected NICU leave for parents with a child in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Key updates include:
• Up to 10 days of leave for employers with 16–50 employees
• Up to 20 days for employers with 51+ employees
• Leave is separate from FMLA and does not run concurrently
• Health insurance benefits must continue during leave

Now is a good time to review and update employee handbook and leave policies before the effective date.
