MERF Musicians’ Emergency Resource Foundation

MERF Musicians’ Emergency Resource Foundation Founded in 1982, MERF grants financial and resource assistance to Kentuckiana music industry professionals in times of medical emergency crisis.

In 1982, Louisville, Kentucky area musicians organized a fundraiser to benefit a fellow musician who had been injured in an auto accident. The collaborative event was so successful in drawing upon the community's support, that the money raised exceeded the musician's emergency needs. That musician, Marvin Maxwell, established MERF as a way to perpetuate this fellowship between the music community

and the community at large. Since then, MERF has provided emergency assistance to Kentuckiana musicians and other entertainment workers for more than three decades, raising over $200,000 to fund its mission through annual fundraisers, donations, silent auctions and sponsorships.

HUGE GRATITUDE to all that attended and contributed to our annual Birthday Bash fundraiser at Mr. G’s last night!

Thanks to Mr. G’s for providing the ample room for it again this year.

We were successful in raising several dozens of dollars for a worthy cause!

A BEATLES sized THANK YOU to the four bands who donated their time and talents for this cause:

-It’s Not You, It’s Me
-DC Shakedown Acoustic
-Soul Circus Trio
-Julie Baker Project

Hefty gratitude to Jeff Flowers (a MERF board member) for providing and running the sound for this event. This is no small expenditure of time and effort and I can’t thank him enough. I hope you all will consider contacting him if you have need of professional sound reinforcement in the future.

Big thanks to Jeff Slyn who arranged for several extra volunteers that really were helpful especially with setup and tear down.

Special recognition to Kurt Bendl and Friends-O-MERF volunteers and T-shirt models April Vaught and LaVerne Roby. Both of whom are also founding members of BB.

And last but not least… thanks to the MERF board members Kathleen Streble (also a founding member of BB), Deanna Soday and Jeffrey Overbee for their considerable efforts towards making this event a success!

And most importantly, everyone seeing these words please keep an eye out for musicians and other live music workers who are unable to gig even temporarily due to illness, injury or other reasons. Please refer them to MERF. There’s an excellent chance that we will be able to provide assistance thanks to events like last night’s.

That’s why we are doing this.

Friends, Louivillians, Music lovers. Lend me your eyes.
As some of you know we are going to have a presence at the Big Four Arts Festival this Sat and Sun. At the foot of the walking bridge. I need just two more volunteers to help man the table on Sunday from about 1 or 2 O Clock to about 5.

Thoughts?
