Coach Pat Kelsey with the University of Louisville Men’s Basketball team shared that a big part of his role as the head coach is to be the Chief Reminder Officer for his players and staff. To make sure each person within the organization is being reminded of their role, that each person is being reminded of what it takes day in and day out, and that each person is reminded of what it means to play/coach for the Louisville Cardinals. I believe this is a role of us can play throughout our personal and professional lives. Another coach and friend of mine, Jordan Montgomery, shares that people need to be reminded more than we need to be instructed. What specific things do you need to be reminded about and what specific areas can you serve as the reminder for others?

A lot of people have heard that being a successful investor is more about your time in the market than it is about timing the market. However, with all the moving parts of today I wanted to provide some statistical data on what the difference would be if you missed out on the 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 best trading days between 2001 and 2020. I think this will prove to be especially important with the talks of market volatility ramping up. 📈 📊

Invested for all 5,032 trading days provided a 5.52% rate of return
Missed the 10 best days = 1.48%
Missed the 20 best days = -1.13%
Missed the 30 best days = -3.27%
Missed the 40 best days = -5.18%
Missed the 50 best days = -6.91%

Yesterday we showed what our ideal “monthly budget breakdown” looks like. A lot of our clients have trouble saving, or knowing where to start. I want to go more in depth about the 3 main points we suggest and talk with our clients about, to teach them how to save properly 📋📍

Whether we’re engaging in retirement planning, insurance planning, saving for education, or another area that we help our clients, what ultimately drives progress or produces the needed outcome is the ability to direct the appropriate amount of cash flow towards a particular goal. We help our clients take an audit of what’s coming into the household relative to what’s going out, but we also work to provide a framework they can operate within to make it easier to find the dollars needed to accomplish whatever their goals are. This can be reorganizing bank accounts, creating spending categories, etc. I hope you find the “monthly budget breakdown”below to be helpful as you think about your own cash flow 📈📓📊

⚾️ Home Run – This segment of wealth building is all about keeping the main thing the main thing. In most businesses your highest and best use of the dollar is reinvesting any profits made back into the business itself as the rate of return is usually far superior and often far more predictable than what can be generated in the market any given year.

📈 Aggressive – this area is a complement to the home run segment. After you’ve moved past the survive stage of business and even through the arrive stage most entrepreneurs find themselves in the thrive stage of their business. This is where they have enough profit to reinvest back into the business to continue growing and continuing to scale, but there’s usually leftover dollars after doing so. The aggressive segment becomes an area our entrepreneur clients can invest excess profits, earn a reasonable rate of return, while also sheltering these dollars from tax. These dollars can also be used to recruit, retain, and reward key talent.

🔐 Safe – the last segment is an area that our clients find themselves appreciating more and more as they age. They want to know they have the sleep well at night money and that not everything is on the roller coaster or carries a certain level of risk that they have over the years within their business. The strategies within this segment are better utilized when approached with foresight knowing we’re going to wake up one day and appreciate safe dollars. Being strategic here can potentially increase overall return and decrease overall taxes owed.

Over the 5,000 plus meetings I’ve had since starting Meyer Financial I’ve encountered people from all walks of life and have been able to witness various personal, professional, and financial situations. However, the one theme that tends to stand out throughout most of these meetings is how each of us focus on the urgent. The urgent things often dominate each day and if we’re not careful they can dominate our life. The problem with this, of course, is that the most important things in life are almost never urgent. I’ve realized this in my own life, which is why I try to inspire others to identify what the most important things are in their world so they can place them at the center of their lives and see them come to fruition and not find themselves looking back and realizing the urgent got in the way of the important.
