My WHY:
Asked often enough about how you like your job, you begin to think about your WHY. Never in my past when thinking about my career path did I say, “I want to be a loan officer”. I truly believe that there is a plan for all of us and one day I was presented with the option, and I had a choice to make. Do I go somewhere that I’m just another number or do I accept a position with a company that I think I truly can make a difference and learn about what this profession is about? “I’ll try it and see how it goes”.
A little over 1 year later I’ve been able to discover MY WHY. It's not the money as that’s just a byproduct of doing the job but not the WHY.
What I’ve discovered is that I love puzzles, math, and most of all helping people. I love having a conversation with someone I’ve never met and getting the opportunity to understand what they are wanting to achieve. Buy my first home, save money on my monthly payments so we can save up and buy that first investment or vacation home. Payoff debt so I can send my kids to a private school, so they get a better education. Everyone has a reason, but I love getting to know them and helping them try and achieve those goals.
I’ve also learned that first-time homebuyers are the most rewarding, nothing can replace the opportunity I’m given to educate them on how the process works and guide them through the process, and then their smiles and appreciation when we're at the closing table when it's all done. Nothing is more rewarding!
This industry is also about relationships with realtors, financial planners, accountants to just name a few. But WHY should they trust you with people they have worked and formed relationships with, their reputation is on the line if you mess this up. We all know the feeling when you refer someone and it doesn’t work out, you feel bad and responsible for their bad experience and become hesitant on referring anyone in the future. When I’ve been given this opportunity, they are trusting me with that relationship and potentially their lively hood it’s a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly and honored to have.
Most would think as a loan officer I just talk rates all day but that’s the last thing I do, I get to know people and hopefully help them. I’m thankful for all the new friendships and relationships that I’ve been able to make, it’s a privilege to have this opportunity every day.
MY WHY is to serve others. Do it every day with a passion, understanding, and a positive attitude that makes my family, friends, and company proud to say their husband, dad, son, friend, and co-worker loves what he does. I love MY WHY
