"Guaranteed income for life" is half a sentence. Always ask the second question 👇

🔄 Send this to whoever is being shown an income illustration this week

The word guaranteed is doing enormous work in that phrase, and the useful question is what stands behind it.

1️⃣ **Guaranteed by whom**
An income guarantee in an annuity is a contractual obligation of the issuing insurance company. Any guarantees are backed solely by the claims-paying ability of that insurer. It is not a bank deposit, it is not FDIC insured, and it is not guaranteed by any federal government agency. That is not a warning, it is simply what the promise actually is, and you should know whose promise you are holding.

2️⃣ **Whose lifetime**
Single life, joint life, or a period certain. Each changes the payment and changes what remains for a spouse or beneficiary. The largest number on the page is usually the option that leaves the least behind.

3️⃣ **What you exchanged for it**
Income certainty is usually bought with liquidity. Ask about the surrender period, the annual withdrawal allowance, any market value adjustment, and every exception to both.

4️⃣ **Guaranteed versus illustrated**
An illustration can show more than one future. Find the guaranteed column and the non-guaranteed column and read them as two separate documents. They are not the same promise.

5️⃣ **Who it may not fit**
Money you expect to need in the near term. If a large share of your savings would be committed, that is a reason to slow down rather than speed up.

Lifetime income is a real tool that solves a real problem. It just deserves the second question before the signature.

The most expensive sentence in any sale is "we'll deal with the taxes after closing" 👇

🔄 Send this to whoever is already talking to a buyer

1️⃣ **Filing season is not the window**
A return reports what already happened. It does not restructure it.

2️⃣ **The window closes at signing, not closing**
For many structures the deadline is when the sale becomes binding, which can be weeks before money moves. Some people cross that line back at the letter of intent.

3️⃣ **Setup takes real time**
Trusts get drafted and funded. Intermediaries get engaged before anything transfers. Calling the week of closing is often calling too late.

4️⃣ **What early looks like**
Early is while you are still deciding whether to sell. Every week after that, options come off the table quietly.

5️⃣ **Sometimes the default is correct**
If the cost of a structure exceeds what it saves, the honest answer is to pay the tax. You should expect to hear that plainly.

Nobody sends a notice when the window closes.

➕ Follow for the timing nobody explains until it is too late

There are two ways to move a 401(k), and one of them costs you twenty percent before you start 👇

🔄 Send this to anyone who has changed jobs this year

This is the most expensive piece of paperwork most people never read, and the fix is a single box on a form.

1️⃣ **The indirect route**
You ask for the money and the plan sends it to you. Any taxable eligible rollover distribution paid to you from an employer plan is generally subject to mandatory federal withholding of twenty percent. That happens even when you tell them you intend to roll it over.

2️⃣ **The sixty day clock**
From the day you receive it, you have sixty days to get it into another eligible plan or IRA.

3️⃣ **The trap inside the trap**
To defer tax on the whole amount, you have to redeposit the entire distribution, including the twenty percent that was withheld and never reached you. That means finding that money from somewhere else for the length of the clock. Whatever you cannot replace is generally treated as a distribution, which can mean tax and, depending on your age, an additional early distribution penalty.

4️⃣ **The direct route**
You ask the plan to send it directly to the new plan or IRA. No withholding. No sixty day requirement, because the money never passes through your hands.

5️⃣ **What to actually say**
"I want a direct rollover, trustee to trustee." That sentence is the entire difference, and it is asked once, on the phone, before anything moves.

Same money. Same destination. One version keeps twenty percent of it working for you the whole way.
