Presented by WGAW’s Genre Committee, this virtual panel is a discussion of the boxing genre, how it’s about more than two people punching each other, and how those familiar tropes can work across genres. This genre has been around since film was created, and many writers have taken different approaches to it, from fiction and non-fiction, biopics to underdog stories. It's a sports genre that is about the heart and drama of the athlete, it’s an action movie, and more often than not, it’s a metaphor about the struggle, striving, success, and failure inherent to the human experience.
