Just another day at the office, grabbing lunch with the usual suspects. We’ve always said we have a killer team.🔪

Everyone brought their appetite, except the new guy at the head of the table. He just didn’t have the stomach for it. 💀

Fourteen years later, we remember the storm. We also remember who showed up.

Hurricane Sandy left families grieving, residents displaced, and homeowners and business owners facing an uncertain future. For many, recovery continued long after the floodwaters receded.

Today, we honor the lives lost and everyone whose life was changed. We recognize the first responders who put themselves at risk to help others, the utility crews who worked to restore essential services, and the volunteers, local organizations, and neighbors who kept showing up when help was needed.

🤝 We also recognize the difficult, often unseen work of recovery. Rebuilding a home. Reopening a business. Helping a loved one start again. Finding a sense of security after so much had been disrupted.

That recovery deserves to be remembered alongside the devastation.

🛡️ Sandy’s anniversary is also a reminder to prepare for what may come next. Have an emergency plan, keep essential supplies ready, and take local warnings seriously. Look out for neighbors who may need extra help.

To everyone affected, and everyone who helped our communities recover: we remember.

Even in the greatest city in the world, people need someone in their corner.

Our team attended last night’s NYC Imagine Awards to celebrate the nonprofits taking on some of the city’s biggest missions. Behind those missions are New Yorkers who need an advocate, an opportunity, or somewhere to turn. These organizations step up.

Guastavino’s was a beautiful setting to reconnect with familiar faces and learn more about the initiatives supporting people and communities across the five boroughs. We left with a greater appreciation for the determination behind that work and the people who make it happen.

Their work deserves recognition. Their missions deserve support. And the people behind both deserve to be celebrated.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees, and thank you for giving New Yorkers someone in their corner.

🔥 What didn’t burn could still be part of the loss.

The flames at this Walmart deli counter grab your attention. But a public adjuster’s questions go beyond what’s visibly burned.

Where did the smoke travel? Was nearby equipment affected by heat? What food and inventory were exposed? And what does it cost while the kitchen is unusable?

Whether it’s your home or your business, the damage can extend beyond the stove or fryer. Think smoke in adjoining rooms, residue inside ventilation systems, and water damage from putting the fire out. What looks untouched isn’t always unaffected.

Your claim shouldn’t stop where the flames did.

Swipe for 10 things a public adjuster looks for after a kitchen fire, including damage that’s easy to overlook.

United Public Adjusters & Appraisers was proud to be the cocktail sponsor of the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s 100th Annual Building Awards at the TWA Hotel at JFK.

Congratulations to the honorees and the architects, builders, and project teams shaping Queens’ future. Thank you to the Chamber for a celebration worthy of the milestone!

🔥 13,000+ smoke damage claims. All involving homes that never burned.

That’s the California Department of Insurance’s estimate following the January 2025 Los Angeles fires. The homes survived the flames, but smoke contamination left families facing questions about testing, cleanup and whether it was safe to return.

Now, California is changing how those claims are handled.

Signed September 15, 2026, AB 1642 and AB 1795 take effect January 1, 2027. Together, they establish a framework for wildfire smoke testing and restoration, with clearer responsibilities for insurers.

Here’s what the legislation addresses:

🔬 Who pays for testing?
Insurers must cover required lead and asbestos testing for qualifying smoke-damaged homes within wildfire impact zones.

🏠 What does cleanup need to accomplish?
The legislation requires coverage for qualifying remediation and restoration to pre-loss condition, guided by applicable testing and cleanup standards.

🧳 When can temporary housing benefits end?
The laws protect against cutting off Additional Living Expense coverage before a home is remediated and cleared for occupancy, subject to applicable coverage limits.

For families waiting to return home, these changes address some of the most stressful questions after a wildfire: What’s still inside the house? Who pays to address it? And how do we know it’s safe to bring our children back?

👉 Swipe through to understand the changes and the questions to ask about your claim.

🌀 Hurricane Isaias, the first major hurricane of the 2026 season, came ashore on the Florida Panhandle, and this is the reality it left for the people living there.

Roofs torn open. Streets turned to rivers. The homes, storefronts, cars and boats in this video weren’t just property; they were people’s lives and livelihoods.

What footage like this doesn’t show is everything that comes after: families sorting through what’s left, business owners wondering when they can reopen, and neighbors stepping up for each other with supplies, a helping hand or simply a place to stay. 🤝

If you’re in the affected area, please be careful in the days ahead:

⚠️ Avoid floodwater. It can hide live wires, debris and contamination.

⚠️ Stay away from downed power lines.

⚠️ If you smell gas, leave right away and call from a safe distance.

⚠️ Don’t enter damaged buildings until they’re cleared as safe.

📸 When it’s safe, photograph and video everything before cleanup starts. Those first images matter more than most people realize.

To every family, business and community rebuilding right now: you’re not alone. 💙🙏

If you have questions about your property damage, United Public Adjusters is here to help.

🌀 Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into a Category 3 storm, with landfall expected Friday night near the Alabama–Florida border.

Communities along the Florida Panhandle and neighboring Gulf Coast face damaging winds, dangerous storm surge and flooding.

Potential damage and economic impacts could exceed $4.5 billion if the storm’s effects reach Pensacola and Eglin Air Force Base, according to Chuck Watson of Enki Research, as reported by Insurance Journal.

Behind that number are families worried about their homes, business owners protecting what they’ve built, and communities facing the possibility of a difficult recovery. Damage can mean more than repairs. It can mean displacement, interrupted paychecks and neighborhood businesses struggling to reopen.

As public adjusters, we understand how closely a family’s recovery is tied to having a safe home, and how much a community depends on its local businesses.

📍 Please follow local evacuation orders and official weather updates, put your safety first, and check on neighbors who may need help.

From all of us at United Public Adjusters & Appraisers, we’re thinking of everyone in the storm’s path and the first responders preparing to help. Stay safe, look after one another, and know that your well-being matters most. 💙
