** SCAM ALERT **
So, if you’ve recently been on your favorite dating site looking for a love connection, and afterward you get a call from someone claiming to be Nampa Police Chief Joe Huff saying you’re in trouble and owe money - it’s not him and it’s a SCAM.
Let us try to explain our understanding of the scam.
❤️🔥 First, we’ll start with - NO the Chief is not on Tinder or the like.
❤️🔥 Secondly, the individuals on the site (a couple different ones that we’re aware of), stop ‘chatting’ with the potential love interest for whatever reason, and then they receive a phone call from what looks like Nampa PD.
❤️🔥 The caller claims to be Chief Huff
❤️🔥 The imposter tells the individual it’s their fault that the other party, who they were chatting with, has harmed themselves because of the disconnect
❤️🔥 The imposter then tells them they owe the family money to compensate their loss or for medical bills
Thankfully, the individuals who contacted us, thought it sounded sketchy and hung up.
That’s exactly our advice! Hang up! It’s not the police! It’s a SCAM!
The police are not going to call you asking for money - especially to compensate a family for any sort of loss.
As entertaining as this will be tomorrow around the water cooler, please know that this is a SCAM and they should be taken seriously.
If you don’t know who the person is on the phone asking for money, don’t ever give out any bank, credit card or other financial information!
