Important Update Regarding Blue Shield of California Medicare Advantage Plans

Effective January 1, 2026, several major provider groups will no longer participate in Blue Shield of California Medicare Advantage plans.

The following provider networks will be affected:

* Cedars-Sinai Health System
* Hill Physicians Medical Group (East Bay)
* Hoag Medical Group (member notices begin October 15, 2025)
* Sutter Health Medicare IMAPD in San Mateo, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin counties (member notices will mail approximately 45 days prior to termination)

What this means for members:

* Patients seeing providers through these groups will lose in-network access under Blue Shield Medicare Advantage plans after December 31, 2025.
* To keep your current doctors, hospitals, and specialists, you’ll need to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan that continues to contract with your provider group.
* Continuity of Care provisions may apply for those in active treatment.

If you or someone you know is enrolled in a Blue Shield Medicare Advantage plan and receives care from Cedars, Hoag, Hill Physicians, or Sutter, it’s important to start reviewing your plan options before the end of the year to avoid interruptions in care.

There’s been a lot of uncertainty and misinformation lately about the government shutdown; what it means, who it affects, and how long it could last.

Whatever happens in Washington, here’s one thing you can count on:

If you receive healthy food benefits through your Medicare Advantage plan, those benefits are not impacted by the shutdown or by any changes to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

You can continue using your healthy food card or benefit as usual; there’s no interruption to your coverage or access.

That said, many people aren’t aware these benefits even exist or how to access them. If you’re unsure whether your plan offers a healthy food allowance, or you’d like help reviewing your options, I’m always happy to help you understand what’s available.

It’s all about making sure you’re getting the most out of your plan and your peace of mind.

I'm thrilled to share that FYInsurance Solutions has teamed up with myPlace Health PACE program, sponsored by Scan Health, and we are now fully certified and trained to provide these additional services to our qualifying seniors.

PACE, or the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, is a healthcare program aimed at helping older adults (55 and up) live independently in their communities for as long as possible. It offers all the medical and social services they need, with care coordinated by an interdisciplinary team. It's a great alternative to nursing home care for those who need that level of assistance but prefer to stay in their own homes.

Blue Shield of CA and UC have finally reached an agreement...

We are pleased to confirm that Blue Shield of California and UC Health today reached a new agreement.

Under the new agreement, UC Health will extend their contracts pending the completion of formal contract renewal documents and necessary Department of Managed Health Care approvals. This means our members can continue to access UC Health providers and UC Health providers will accept Blue Shield members as in-network as we work through these remaining details.

With the approval of the Department of Managed Health Care, Blue Shield is in the process of reassigning HMO members back to their UC Health primary care providers, effective July 10, 2025. Those members will not need to call Blue Shield to keep their UC Health primary care providers. HMO members can change their primary care provider at any time by calling the number on the back of their insurance card.

We are dedicated to ensuring members have access to affordable care and are pleased to be able to continue our partnership with UC Health.

Great news from Blue Shield of CA and Hoag:

"We are pleased to announce that Blue Shield of California and Hoag have reached a new agreement. Hoag Clinic and facilities will continue to accept Blue Shield Commercial HMO, PPO, and Medicare Advantage members as in-network. Effective January 1, 2026, Hoag Clinic (physician group) will be terminated for Medicare Advantage members; however, Hoag hospitals will continue to remain in-network.

Commercial HMO members who recently received letters regarding Hoag will receive “good news” communications with information on the successful negotiation this week. Members will have their same Primary Care Providers (PCPs) with Hoag; no action is required.

As a nonprofit health plan, we are committed to holding network providers accountable to help ensure that all Californians have access to high-quality health care at an affordable price. We stand by this commitment when negotiating reimbursement rates with administrators.
