September is ๐๐๐ฅ๐-๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก, and I want to say something especially to family caregivers:
๐๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐ญ๐จ๐จ.
Caregiving can be one of the greatest expressions of love. But it can also be exhausting, emotional, unpredictable, and sometimes incredibly lonely.
When someone you love is nearing the end of life, itโs easy to tell yourself, โ๐ผโ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ก ๐๐๐ก๐๐.โ
But you cannot keep pouring from an empty cup.
Self-care right now doesnโt have to mean a spa day or a weekend away. Sometimes it simply means:
๐ฟ Stepping outside for ten quiet minutes.
๐ Eating something nourishing and drinking some water.
๐ด Resting when your loved one rests.
๐ Calling someone just to say, "๐๐๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐ โ๐๐๐."
๐ค And perhaps most importantly, ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ก๐๐ฅ๐ฉ.
You donโt have to prove your love by doing everything yourself.
Sometimes accepting help is part of loving them, too, because caring for yourself helps you keep showing up with the presence, patience, and love you want to give.
And if you could use another pair of hands, a listening ear, or simply someone beside you as you care for a loved one at the end of life, call me. ๐๐๐ญ'๐ฌ ๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ค. ๐
