Sometimes, you may be receiving “observation services” as an outpatient — even if you spend the night in the hospital.

Why does that matter?

Your hospital status can affect how Medicare bills your care and whether Medicare may cover certain skilled nursing care after you leave the hospital.

💡 Wisdom for today: If you’re in the hospital, ask, “Am I an inpatient or am I receiving observation services?”
